Philippines Cosmetic Market: Everyday Beauty Habits That Actually Make a Difference
Reconsidering Beauty as a Daily Practice, not a Trend
When I pause and think about my beauty ritual, virtually none of it is about the latest trends or expensive purchasing. It is, in fact, about practices. Little things that I do without even thinking about them. Some of these things I learnt from role models as a child. Others I worked out after a few tough experiences and lessons.
It is a familiar way of thinking about beauty and it is becoming increasingly popular as more and more people begin to think about what they do, use, and why they do it. It speaks to a growing appreciation of personal care and skincare. According to GMI Research, the Philippines Cosmetic Market is projected to reach USD 5.0 billion by 2032.
True beauty lies in how you treat yourself and how good it makes you feel.
Sunscreen Is Still One Thing I Won’t Skip
Sunscreen. Wish I started taking it seriously early in my skin care journey. I’ve heard tons of skin care lovers say it. It doesn’t matter how many serums you layer on. If you skip sunscreen, you are cancelling out a large portion of the work you put in. I think of sunscreen not as a step in my routine, but as protection for my skin. Front, back: face, neck, and chest. Damage to those areas is irreversible, and you don’t want to be the one to put the work in a routine, while neglecting sunscreen.
Your Neck and Chest Deserve the Same Care
This one crept up on me. I focused on my face for years and ignored my neck and décolletage. Big mistake.
The skin there, underneath the face, is thinner. Pre and post aging it is more vulnerable to the sun and is more important to protect. It takes less, and does more, to extend your skin care routine to your neck and chest.
Cleansing Matters, Even on Lazy Nights
The importance of cleansing is one I’ve learned to prioritize the hard way. These lessons are not very fun, and I’ve learned it the hard way to never sleep with your skin with the day’s grime on your skin.
Your skin will collect dirt from everyday face touching and putting on makeup. Not to mention the skin and pore clogging substances we apply everyday like sunscreen/oil. Not washing your face will be an invitation to further await skin issues and dull skin. Skin has the opportunity to recover when we sleep, and will do so more easily when we give it a clean canvas.
The first step is finding a cleanser that is enjoyable to use and fits your face. This will help make achieving a skin care routine attainable.
Dirty makeup brushes will undo whatever good skincare you've done, so clean them.
They don't have to be cleaned every day. Once a week is enough. Once they get dirty, wash them, let them dry, and you've done your skin a favor. It will help your makeup apply smoother and from my experience as a bonus to that, your brushes will last longer.
Face wipes add to the landfill, and are a bad habit.
Face towels and wipes can easily be replaced. Just like with face towels, the wipe containers are wasteful, but the wipes themselves are reusable. It is a good habit to buy sustainable products like period products, reusable packages, and mindfully. This can be done one step at a time.
We've all done it. Buying the next miracle product before giving the current one a real chance.
Skin needs time and consistency. When you apply new products and leave old ones behind, you are making it harder for your skin to improve because your skin needs to adjust to new products. Be consistent and finish what you start.
Skin care won't solve everything.
We start at the most crucial. Skin care products may help your skin, but is one of the smallest pieces to the puzzle of achieving your healthiest skin.
Do your skin a favor and get some sleep. Eating and moving (as in exercise) also improve your skin. When a person is tired, part of the tired look comes from the skin. Bad skin is a factor of being dehydrated. So, of course, drinking water and staying hydrated is always good in the dehydrated versus dry skin battle, but water won't get dry skin to go away, or any better, all by itself.
Do Enjoy and Imbibe in the Rituals
Self care looks so different for everyone, and that's good. Some may get their self care from yoga. Some may get it from kicking back and walking and slowing things down at the end of the day from a busy day.
Even small pockets of time are counted, which is important.
Making a trouble free beauty routine takes time and good habits. The good habits are the ones that are truely effective and are simple and relaistic. Truley effective routines are the simple ones that may take time to build.
