thedrizzle,

Wow that’s old.

Frankly, as shitty is a lot of that stuff was, DVDs were like the last form of media distribution that I would actually call tolerable in terms of consumer friendliness. You still got a physical disk with the actual movie that was easy to rip and share, no internet required. If it weren’t for the quality limitations, I’d still collect them as the primary physical backup to my media server.

cerement,
@cerement@slrpnk.net avatar

the only big shortcoming to DVDs was the region locking …

monstoor,

That’s why we had a market for region-free DVD players!

max2078,

Some of these players even skipped the unskippable intros and always started at the main menu. The best thing for legit buyers and enthusiasts back in the day. And don’t forget the (S)VCD support and DivX/Xvid support. Good old times.

It’s not lost revenue if I was never going to pay for it in the first place.

cyberpunk007,

If I forget my ad blocker or anything, the moment I see an ad on YouTube and I see “ad x/3” with like a 30-60s timer on it I just close the tab and move on. Fuck ads.

theshatterstone54,

Yeah. I was once installing Linux, and decided to open firefox in the live environment and watch a video on YT. Ads. Close tab. Reopen tab. Ads again. Fk it, installed Ublock Origin in the live environment and just watched the video. No ads.

DudePluto,

Yeah I’m not subscribing to a whole service just so I can watch 3/4 of my team’s games and no others. I want a service I can subscribe to and see all my team’s games, and preferably all the games in one league. If it was multi-league that would be great, but I’d rather subscribe to one league at a time than subscribe to all leagues with randomly blacked out games.

Until then - and I know it’s unlikely to ever happen - I won’t be spending money on watching sports on tv

speq, w Has YouTube Blocked Your Adblocker Yet??

For those who don’t know: VLC also takes a YouTube video address as input (in the menu: Media | Open Network Stream…).

snowbell,
@snowbell@beehaw.org avatar

Strange, that doesn’t work for me

lemann,

Update your VLC player if you haven’t already.

There is also a way to individually update just the extractor LUA script that VLC uses to play YT videos, but I haven’t messed with that in so long I’ve forgotten how to do it

can,

VLC is so damn good

determinism2,

This has not worked for me in a very long time.

Venus,
@Venus@hexbear.net avatar

Your vlc is probably busted and could use a reinstall. Happened to me once. It still works.

commie,

i thought maybe this would work for me: nope. it was awesome when it worked but it’s completely broken afaict.

Baseball is a hell to watch outside the US or Japan. I would give them money but they do not want it…

lustrum, w best way to watch f1 on demand

Sportsurge.to has worked decent for me the last 2 seasons.

Keeboy,

Do they have on demand or only live?

lustrum,

Ah crap, sorry misread your title. It’s live.

Faceman2K23, w Whats your preferred codec?
@Faceman2K23@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I dont use Tdarr because of its lack of more complex rules, but I do use fileflows to re-encode old videos on my server based on some rules considering its overall filesize, current format, and which library it is in. If the flow decides the file should be encoded it is converted to h265 10bit at a high bitrate, if it somehow ends up bigger than the original it does it again with a higher reduction factor.

fileflows

Ahh… This looks like the sort of work flow I’ve been looking for, thanks for letting me know about it :)

bionicjoey, w Best place to get forced subtitles?

I wish this style of subs was just baked into the media. I had the same issue with the Dany parts of GoT and also with parts of BCS (Spanish and German are fantasy languages, don’t @ me)

ZeroEcks,

I have bazaar setup to pull full subtitles (and strip cc from them) but I have never gotten a release without forced subs I’m pretty sure. Maybe check where your pulling releases from, I find Usenet releases are good for including subs in the file.

They did a pretty damn good job stamping out MLB streaming since last year. There's still sources out there but nowhere near as numerous or consistent as they were in like 2019 - early 2022

NotGeorge, w Best place to get forced subtitles?

Check out Bazarr, it can automate finding subtitles.

iHUNTcriminals,

I use that but still have issues…

Any tips for settings?

NotGeorge,

Depends on your issues, the more info you give the more others can help

NateSwift, w best way to watch f1 on demand

I’ve had good luck with overtakefans in the past, both for live broadcasts and archives. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched F1 but I remember them being really solid

Keeboy, (edited )

You got a link? I can’t find the site

Thanks

EDIT: found the site using Bing (lol) but it is taking very long to load only video the site it self seems fine just video load speed

HumanPerson, w Has YouTube Blocked Your Adblocker Yet??

I only watch Rossmann’s channel anymore so I will probably just quit if they block mine. I use uBlock Origin + Librewolf + VPN + pihole + a random user agent extension. When I set my VPN to USA it still doesn’t say anything.

DARbarian,
@DARbarian@artemis.camp avatar

I have almost the exact same setup! But please tell me more about this random user agent extension

HumanPerson,

This is it: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/random_user_agent/

It breaks some sites but is very configurable and you will probably be able to get it to work. I believe it is GPL but it may be Mozilla license.

Drewski,

Louis Rossman is also on Odysee: https://odysee.com/@rossmanngroup:a

HumanPerson,

Yay I can quit google completely!!!

theshatterstone54,

YES! One of the creators I can keep on watching when I quit (by the end of the week probably, or when they kill off newpipe)

jumpy, w all but abandonedware

If you have the software, I’d love to take a look. I have some good friends…

Reocken, w Have you considered IRC?

Since RARBG shut down, I been using IRC more often for 2160p releases that are tougher to come by. Also, I never stopped using it for chatting. You won't ever catch me using that bloated Discord garbage.

garret,
@garret@lemmy.ml avatar

Could you tell a resourse for 2160p releases? Did not know IRC could be used also for such “big files”.

hottari, w Whats your preferred codec?

Can’t get enough of x265. The size to quality ratio is very good and all my hardware supports it.

hyper,

I know right! I was confused when I first encountered x265 files because I thought it was too small lol.
