Frankly, as shitty is a lot of that stuff was, DVDs were like the last form of media distribution that I would actually call tolerable in terms of consumer friendliness. You still got a physical disk with the actual movie that was easy to rip and share, no internet required. If it weren’t for the quality limitations, I’d still collect them as the primary physical backup to my media server.
Some of these players even skipped the unskippable intros and always started at the main menu. The best thing for legit buyers and enthusiasts back in the day. And don’t forget the (S)VCD support and DivX/Xvid support. Good old times.
If I forget my ad blocker or anything, the moment I see an ad on YouTube and I see “ad x/3” with like a 30-60s timer on it I just close the tab and move on. Fuck ads.
Yeah. I was once installing Linux, and decided to open firefox in the live environment and watch a video on YT. Ads. Close tab. Reopen tab. Ads again. Fk it, installed Ublock Origin in the live environment and just watched the video. No ads.
Yeah I’m not subscribing to a whole service just so I can watch 3/4 of my team’s games and no others. I want a service I can subscribe to and see all my team’s games, and preferably all the games in one league. If it was multi-league that would be great, but I’d rather subscribe to one league at a time than subscribe to all leagues with randomly blacked out games.
Until then - and I know it’s unlikely to ever happen - I won’t be spending money on watching sports on tv
There is also a way to individually update just the extractor LUA script that VLC uses to play YT videos, but I haven’t messed with that in so long I’ve forgotten how to do it
I dont use Tdarr because of its lack of more complex rules, but I do use fileflows to re-encode old videos on my server based on some rules considering its overall filesize, current format, and which library it is in. If the flow decides the file should be encoded it is converted to h265 10bit at a high bitrate, if it somehow ends up bigger than the original it does it again with a higher reduction factor.
I wish this style of subs was just baked into the media. I had the same issue with the Dany parts of GoT and also with parts of BCS (Spanish and German are fantasy languages, don’t @ me)
I have bazaar setup to pull full subtitles (and strip cc from them) but I have never gotten a release without forced subs I’m pretty sure. Maybe check where your pulling releases from, I find Usenet releases are good for including subs in the file.
They did a pretty damn good job stamping out MLB streaming since last year. There's still sources out there but nowhere near as numerous or consistent as they were in like 2019 - early 2022
I’ve had good luck with overtakefans in the past, both for live broadcasts and archives. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched F1 but I remember them being really solid
I only watch Rossmann’s channel anymore so I will probably just quit if they block mine. I use uBlock Origin + Librewolf + VPN + pihole + a random user agent extension. When I set my VPN to USA it still doesn’t say anything.
Since RARBG shut down, I been using IRC more often for 2160p releases that are tougher to come by. Also, I never stopped using it for chatting. You won't ever catch me using that bloated Discord garbage.
