Maxpedition Urban Assault maybe? Maxpedition’s prepared citizen bags are interesting too, basically a jansport with bombproof fabrics.

Osprey, Deuter and similar have good bags too but aren’t custom built for carry. Looks normal because they are, and can be surprisingly durable while also being light.

Velcro is out but how about molle loops? Leaning more tacticool for the features and materials or are you looking to be more colorful and inconspicuous?

Vej,

Molle is fine. It’s not as tactical if everyone and ther mom has molle. Even Walmart has it near me.

What’s the utility of the key case? I think that having keys just on a keyring allows them to more comfortably spread inside the pocket. Never had one, so I’m curious if that’s an aesthetic/security or convenience tool

Diplomjodler,

No jingle jangle. No snags. Less hunting about for the right key. And I just like the look.

rozPierog,

Completely valid reasons! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity

LesserAbe,

Just looked up the key case, I kind of like it. The problem for me is always the car key. Modern cars seem to have these giant keys, and I keep them in a jean key pocket, so something has to give.

Diplomjodler,

The car “key” is in the Ridge wallet.

LesserAbe,

Your use of quotes has me intrigued, what do you mean by that?

Diplomjodler,

I have a Tesla. The “key” is just a key card.

You might wanna get a “cable card”. It would replace all of the usb stuff. a.co/d/drH95ukCan highly recommend, I always have it in my backpack

@Vej I would look at the Vertx Gamut backpack! I'm not a fan of this American company that tries to act all macho and patriotic while manufacturing their stuff who knows where, because they just say "imported". Instead of "Made in China" or "This is our partner factory in Vietnam at this specific address".

You're not gonna find a CCW bag without Velcro to be honest, that's how you attach the holster. But the gamut seems easy to clean out and none of the Velcro is exposed to the exterior

Vej,

Alright it’s in the running now. That looks pretty sweet. Thanks for the suggestion

Love the 1R2 - this is my go to keychain light.

XeroxCool,

1R2 gang. Non-pro for me. The battery isn’t great but the convenience is exactly what I want in a Keychain flashlight. Dim is all I need for a whole room when dark adapted, bright is all I need elsewhere. It’s so nice to have a focused beam compared to the flood on my phone. And no touchscreen whackness or concern about dirty hands, just twist and light.

You can’t expect something you abuse to be a buyitforlife

Vej,

I want just something really durable. I want to take it hiking in bear country and in the city.

ZebraGoose, w Today's (UK) EDC

What compass is that?

foofiepie,

It was from a Kickstarter, called Path-22.

Have you checked 5.11’s Rush 2.0 line? Is that too much Velcro? I’m not sure what size you’re looking for either. The RUSH12 is great for an every day backpack and small enough to easily fit under an airline seat if you don’t have a ton of attachments.

Vej,

I looked into it. Yeah too much Velcro for me personally

See my post from a couple months ago re. backpacks. Lots of good suggestions.

If you’re looking for bifl bag I have to give the obligatory shout out to Goruck. The GR1 has molle on the inside that you can attach a holster to and I’m sure that some of the others do as well. It’s a pack that’s meant to thrive in rough conditions and if you happen to damage it it’s covered by their scars lifetime warranty. I’ve had mine for 7 years now with no issues. The only Velcro it has on the outside is for a patch and I’m sure you can remove it if you don’t want it.

They’re called belts, junior. Back when I was a kid in the 1950’s everybody wore one. And we were happy!

I’ve heard good things about the LAMY. Do you find it’s as practical for daily use as say a ballpoint?

pineapplelover,

I don’t use a Lamy (I use a Kaweco) but I can say that fountain pens are pretty nice if you like liquid and smooth writing. It’s not good on other materials other than paper like hard materials but for doing math and writing it’s a breeze.

PilferJynx,

You kinda have to be an enthusiast to make a fountain pen an edc. They require more work, are more prone to damage and has the potential to spill all that lovely ink all over your nice clothes. I just keep mine at my desk. They’re a pleasure to write with given a quality make.

FWIW, I’ve never had a leak with a modern FP.

finkrat,

This, Lamy Vista FP at my desk, Zebra ballpoint in my bag.

UsernameIsTooLon,

Same practicality but it requires more care. If you want a daily use beater, go for Pentel energels or Sharpie S-Gels for some smooth writing and deep colors.

etuomaala,

More practical, even, at least in my experience.

Ballpoints always jam on me, requiring about a kilonewton of force and about five minutes of blank scribbling to get it going again. Then, often, they leave big blotches of their sticky ink on the page when turning a corner.

The Safari does jam on occasion, but usually, a single well-placed drop of water is enough to get it going again. That depends on the ink you use though. If you use water and inkjet printer ink, it never jams, though it is a little bloody. 30 water : 1 platinum carbon black makes a lovely grey, but it jams so bad that I need to add a bit of inkjet printer ink to keep it running. Yeah, you’re definitely not supposed to water down that ink so much lol.

InigoMontoyota, w Have I finally perfected my keychain?

I believe your Keychain is missing…keys :)

KBae,

They’re in the key organizer duh 😂

Junkdata,

I had that key organizer, loved it that you can expand in case you got more keys but they can get bulky quick. I gave it to someone who had more keys than mine since i wanted to try an offbrand (clone) since the keysmart started becoming mainstream brand.

KBae,

Nothing wrong with mainstream, it’s a good product that does its job well.
