Most people don’t need the newest and expensive tech. From the last 30 days of active games on Playstation brand, here a split PS3/PS4/PS5 (I just show a ratio that is set in relation to the numbers of players for the game), meaning left side is older console:

ps-timetracker.com/statistic/last-30-days

  • - / 42 / 14 Fortnite (3 times)
  • - / 3 / 2 Roblox (1.5 times)
  • 0 / 33 / 9 Minecraft** (3.7 times)
  • - / 14 / 9 Cod:MW2 (1.6 times)
  • - / 38 / 12 GTA V (3.2 times)
  • - / 23 / 8 Rainbow Siege (2.9 times)
  • - / 26 / 8 Apex Legends (3.3 times)
  • - / 17 / 7 Overwatch 2 (2.4 times)
  • - / 1 / 1 EA Sports FC 24 (1 time)

Edit: I have added simple math result in how many times the PS4 player base is big as the PS5 player base. Just out of curiosity and to provide a quicker way of scanning through the list.

(**ps3 players almost at 0 level for this game)

As you can see, all games are available for PS4 and they run decent enough, are multiplayer games and the new consoles do not offer anything substantial for these kind of players.

All the greatest recent games run super well on the Steam Deck

I get what you are telling here, but it’s not 100% accurate, generally speaking. It might be true for you personally. I own a first gen Steam Deck myself and its just a complementary hardware to my PC (and wonderful at that). It does not run all greatest games at all or in some cases limited and problematic. So “super well” is a little bit exaggerated, but that does not take away how fantastic the device is.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

I own an Xbox Series (got it for free, you can’t argue with that), but still will wait for the PC port. I don’t think it will take 3 years before it comes to PC, especially not in todays landscape with a strong PC in Gaming overall. They surely are already working in a way to enable such a port. So 1 year from console release date seems to be realistic.

… who am I kidding to?

The History of Tetris World Records [by Summoning Salt] ~ a 2 hour documentary (youtu.be) angielski

I just watched an excellent 2 hour (just needed to edit title, as I noticed it was 2 hours and not 1, wow time really flew away!) long documentary. The build up in stages and showing the evolution of the best players achievements, is intense and very well edited, narrated and written documentary!...

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

You can watch them piece by piece (meaning if its broken up by chapters like this), if its too long. I personally don’t do that, but can absolutely understand it. Nowadays I also watch most videos at higher speed. Some talk really slow, I mean slow that I watch it at x1.4 speed and it sounds like someone else is talking at x1.0 speed. But this video, I didn’t have a problem with the narration itself.

BTW I recommend Looking for an addon or like that if you watch on a browser. I have a more fine control over the speed values, as x1.25 sometimes is too fast. In example I often watch at x1.1 by default or sometimes at x1.2… and in really bad cases even faster.

I don’t agree that Fan the Deck became too much clickbait. I know Deck Ready too and its incredibly bad with his clickbait. Stopped watching Deck Ready. But regardless of the title in this video from Fan the Deck, I had same expectations as you, if you watch the content then the title makes sense and is not clickbait. I agree on every point and the recap he did in the beginning too.

Regardless what you think, if I am paid to write this or not, I mean it when I say this video title is not misleading clickbait.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

The video content isn’t talking about the current market or the past, but how Steam Deck is the biggest threat to Xbox in the future. Xbox has a lot of potential. The leadership changed (which is addressed in this video too). When Microsoft was at its worse, Steve Ballmer was the boss of Microsoft and Don Mattrick was ruining Xbox in the ground with XBox One. Now we have Satya Nadella and have Spencer, who did bring back the Xbox brand and seem to understand their stuff better.

Always good to have good recommendations. I subscribed to her channel and will watch a few videos before coming to any conclusion.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

I like when he talks about the Steam Deck, but he talked too much about other handhelds and accessories. Plus most of his talks are about (software) modding the Deck, which I am not doing much. That’s why I unsubscribed, but not because it is bad, I’m just not the target. Seems like he stopped posting because I unsubscribed… :D But I recommend anyone reading these replies to look at his YouTube channel and watch some older videos. They are quite interesting and go in depth in some of them:

I actually didn’t encounter anyone saying Dark Souls and like games being an ARPG. Dark Souls like games are usually called Souls like. The problem is, that the term RPG and Action are not a distinct genres. This is a long standing issue in gaming, long before 2000s even. When I was a teenager, some people called Zelda an RPG, others said Action RPG, some people (me included) said its an Action Adventure. Genres and terms that are vague and broad will always clash with others. Don’t let me begin what Secret of Mana (SNES) actually is.

Look at Racing games. There are Mario Kart and Gran Turismo, two very different kind of racing games and both still are. What about motorcycle racing or classic racing games like Rock’n Roll Racing (someone remember? this is what Blizzard did before they became Blizzard!).

OK, so you see it’s a mess of terms. Diablo isn’t a new game, it evolved from previous games that were similar and mixed in from other genres. How do you classify such a game in an already existing set of genre terms? It’s kind of an Action RPG that existed before, so its natural to put it into such a category. Look at all those RPG games, they are all RPG but still vastly different. BTW I never heard of bullet heaven, but that sounds really funny. It sounds like an anti name for jokes. And being the one with the bullets might even fit into the category funny and fitting name.

If have a new name for Diable like games, it will clash with other genres again. You put generic terms like Loot or Build into it and so on. What if a Diablo like game isn’t that grindy? Or does not focus much on Loot. We have been through this with various other genres. Therefore I would not even try to invent something and not take genres too seriously. It’s a mess. You can’t getting it right by adding more mess to it.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

Exactly. Nowadays almost any game becomes and RPG. The terms are fluid. BTW I wouldn’t myself call Dark Souls anything like a Metroidvania, because my personal understanding is that the focus of Dark Souls is not quite on the backtracking and learning new abilities. I mean our discussion here shows again why game genres aren’t useful anymore.

We nowadays use the tagging system, which allows us to give any number of “genres” and combine them individually for each game. Even though we don’t agree on all terms, it’s still better having a single genre like ARPG associated with a game.

boasting monthly player numbers of over 200 million - close to double the entirety of Steam

No? It’s not the entirety of Steam, it’s also monthly active user on Steam to compare to. Last time Steam mentioned the monthly active user was 120 million in 2020 and 132 million in 2021. Steam reached milestones and records every year and broke them multiple times. So it’s fair to “assume” the monthly active users grew, not at last because of Steam Deck. The Roblox numbers (if they are correct at all), are nowhere the double of Steam monthly active users, let alone the entirety of Steam. The entirety of Steam is much bigger: “The billionth Steam account was made on April 28th, 2019.” I know that not every account is a human, but not every account is a bot either.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

Also:

“For them, you know, hearing from their experience, they didn’t feel like they were exploited! They felt like, ‘Oh my god, this was the biggest gift, all of a sudden I could create something, I had millions of users, I made so much money I could retire.’ So I focus more on the amount of money that we distribute every year to creators, which is now getting close to like a billion dollars, which is phenomenal.”

is the same argumentation about stars. 1 in 10’000 people get this status (I just threw random numbers, don’t quote me on that) and the other remaining 9’999 are exploited. So he is justifying exploiting 10k people by gifting one person.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

It’s not because one is forced to play their games, it’s because of abusing childs (in terms of work and money). And this is newsworthy, as we speak about over 200 million users, with a lot of them being underage.

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

I just beat today Breath of the Wild, a 7 year old game. BTW played on Yuzu since 2 months or so and have 120 hours.

Get the PS5 now or wait for the pro?

I’m looking to get back into console gaming. PlayStation has been around for most of my life and I always played on that console. I am conflicted if I should wait for the PS5 PRO or just go get the PS5 now because what would be the net benefit of waiting versus getting a console now. What do you all think about this conundrum?...

thingsiplay,
!deleted5247 avatar

Did Sony announce a PS5 Pro? I think its just a rumor at this time. And even if so, we don’t know what the system can do, what restrictions or problems it could have and what it will cost. We don’t know if the console will be available without a problem. We don’t know when the thing comes out either, if ever. It’s incredible hard to know if its worth waiting, if we don’t know anything.

And second, if you really need a console right now, then buy one. My thumb of rule is, if you can wait, then wait. So this is ultimately your decision.
