Article seems to think so, but I’m only hearing about it now myself.

Roblox CEO tells parents that “if you're not comfortable, don't let your kids be on Roblox”. (mezha.media) angielski

“My first message would be, if you’re not comfortable, don’t let your kids be on Roblox. That sounds a little counter-intuitive, but I would always trust parents to make their own decisions,” the company’s director noted.

Yeah, no kidding. Quite impressed.

Can’t have their pretty little cars show a single dent.

Amtrak-Sponsored Texas HSR Takes a Step Closer – But to What? (www.railwayage.com) angielski

The big buzz and bigger controversy around Texas during the past several years has been a proposal by a company called Texas Central to build and operate a high-speed rail line between Downtown Dallas and a point in the Houston area, about eight miles from downtown Houston where two highways intersect, a great spot for a parking...

For Competing Railroads, What’s New Is Old (www.railwayage.com) angielski

The reason we stay in school, pursue advanced degrees, merge and acquire competitors is to increase market power. The former two are celebrated by society, the latter two often derided negatively as anticompetitive and made subject to regulatory and judicial punishment.

If it weren’t for the fact that I “ran out of free stories,” I’d be able to quote the article’s contents and not rely on the subheader.

Games are very difficult software to create. The only reason publishers like EA or Ubisoft can get away with pumping theirs out at an rapid (and unhealthy) pace is because they have a massive team

You have to have a certain amount of bravery and humility to program because failure is with you at every step of the way. I know. I do this shit as a hobby.

Seems more like Sims 3-style, but if you cranked up the graphics up to 11.

The Sims 3: K-Pop Stuff Pack.

While graphics generally aren’t important, they do become a glaring problem when the engine is poorly written. Pokémon Sword and Shield shed light on this problem because it was designed as an 3D open world game, meaning attention to detail was paramount. It needed to feel lived in, much like Breath of the Wild. Unfortunately, we got a barren and flat landscape that feels like it was ripped straight out of the DS.

checks Seems games as a service model that we know today really picked up steam at around the late 2010s. So, yeah…

@tonytins@pawb.social avatar

I mean, yeah. Just don’t tend not to lump the older ones in it because of how awful the practice has become since the phrase was formalized.

Wowie wow wow.

tonytins,

There’s nothing wrong with that. I tend to lean more to sci-fi myself. But the premise argues that it and fantasy are somehow different, when they’re not. It’s a criticizes generative AI, which is valid, but doesn’t question why the two genres have to be at odds when it obviously has a blend of both.

@tonytins@pawb.social avatar

Ugh… Don’t get me started.

Excluding the “Open Core” projects, those people don’t normally have management breathing down their necks.

That’s why I put it in quotes.

The Sims re-release shows what’s wrong with big publishers and single-player games (arstechnica.com) angielski

A few days ago, EA re-released two of its most legendary games: The Sims and The Sims 2. Dubbed the “The Legacy Collection,” these could not even be called remasters. EA just put the original games on Steam with some minor patches to make them a little more likely to work on some modern machines....

tonytins,
@tonytins@pawb.social avatar

Not surprised that it’s as bad as when they first re-released The Sims 2.

@tonytins@pawb.social avatar

It was the mid-2000s. Graphics were held to different standards back then.
