bionicjoey, do games w Spec Ops: The Line permanently removed from Steam and other digital stores

Yeah GOG has an interesting legacy. For a long time it was the only place to get working games for abandoned platforms that didn’t require ages of tinkering. They’d give you a bundled copy of dosbox or some other emulator preconfigured to work with the particular game on Windows.

It’s moved so far from its roots that they’ve all but abandoned the acronym. A bit like how TLC used to stand for “The Learning Channel”

Yeah CDPR doesn’t care about Linux support at all. They for years promised Linux support for their GOGGalaxy desktop client and then abruptly deleted the webpage that promised that feature. Their Linux support IME is some dodgy shell scripts that never work right.

bionicjoey, do games w Twitch streamer plays Palworld using only her mind

Yeah I want to say for me it was at the science center in Montreal but it’s been a long time, and I really liked science museums as a kid.

I remember when I was a kid, (around 15 years ago if I had to guess), there was an exhibit at a science museum where they used EEG to make a ball move on a table. Then they set up a game where two people would wear EEG on opposite sides of the table and the ball would roll toward whichever person could get their brainwaves to match a certain pattern better. I think the idea was if you quieted your mind then you would win.

bionicjoey, do games w The Pokemon Company releases a statement regarding Palworld: Inquiries Regarding Other Companies’ Games

Is nobody aware of Cassette Beasts? This isn’t the first Pokémon clone that has been made. As long as you don’t use Nintendo’s IP, they can’t go after you.

bionicjoey, do games w Cities: Skylines 2 developers have noticed 'a growing tendency of toxicity in our community'

Players: “your game doesn’t work. It’s riddled with bugs. It has serious performance issues and doesn’t run on most hardware. It lacks modding support as well as basic features that were present in the previous game”

bionicjoey, (edited ) do games w Playing Pillars of Eternity for the first time

The thing is, it’s not really villain-as-protagonist. It’s more like “goon-as-protagonist”. You are just a cog in the real villain’s machine. That’s why the choices are so interesting. Because they are often trolley-problems constrained by the world Kyros has created. So you don’t get choices like “will you kill this baby or not” because then it’s easy to not be the bad guy. You get choices like “Kyros demands someone from this town is getting killed. You can choose this baby or this old person. You can also choose not to make a choice, but that would be shirking your job as a judge and omniscient daddy Tunon wouldn’t like it”

Personally I was a huge fan of Tyranny. It’s built on the same engine as POE, but I liked the story, worldbuilding, and characters a lot more.

bionicjoey, do games w What are some of the best mini-games youve played? (games inside games)

IMO pay-to-win mechanics work really well for a game-within-a-game since rather than exploiting the player for money, they are exploiting the player character for effort, which can lead you to go on more epic quests

bionicjoey, do games w Valve issues DMCA takedown for "Team Fortress: Source 2"

Valve are well within their rights here. This isn’t new content or transformative. It’s literally trying to remake the same game using the same engine. These devs knew they were playing with fire. Never come between GabeN and his hats.

Cassette Beasts was an absolutely beautiful game with a banger soundtrack and managed to recapture the joy of playing Pokémon from when I was a kid, something which even Pokémon games can’t seem to do now.

bionicjoey, do games w China announced new laws to limit microtransactions, affecting major corporations like Tencent.

Part of the problem is that there’s no incentive for game companies to ensure that players are of an appropriate age and are gambling responsibly. It’s a Pandora’s box of capitalism in the same way fossil fuels, cigarettes, and big pharma are. Their customers have a demand for their product which is driven by a physiological/psychological/socioeconomic need, so they aren’t subject to normal market mechanics.
