I’m still working through Phantom Liberty. It’s so well done, a step up even from the original game.
I’m quite sad that Cyberpunk 2077 is all done now, but I’m excited that they have started production on the sequel. Say what you will about CDPR and how they botched the launch of CP2077, they game as it stands now is fantastic and probably one of my favorite games of the last decade.
On the side, I’ve been playing a fun little indy twin-stick shooter rogue-lite called “Shape Shifter: Formations”. I tend to pick up a lot of these kinds of rogue-likes… they’re generally dirt cheap so it doesn’t take many hours of fun to feel like I got my money’s worth. I’m 20 hours into this one so far… $6 well spent!
This is the core of all their games. The guy who founded the company wrote his senior thesis on flow in gaming and every game they’ve made has been about helping you achieve flow while playing. The (very) short version is that the mechanics of the game let you intuitively set your own challenge level, which enables everyone to naturally reach a flow state no matter their skill level.
I am a really big fan of thatgamecompany. I didn’t really like Sky though.
This is the one that immediately popped into my mind. “Alone in the Dark” is the game that made me realize I don’t ever want to play another horror game again! :-D
“Slightly less dogshit”? Have you played 2.0 yet? Have you even played 1.6? Doesn’t sound like it. They put in a ton of fixes an QoL in the last two years and this latest patch is just one more FREE update. They didn’t “fix some of the issues years later”. They fixed most of the issues over the last two years and now are providing optional new content. The redemption is that after fixing all that, the new content is apparently free from the issues that plagued the original launch.
And it’s VERY clear from the way you’re talking that nothing they do could redeem them in your eyes. I’m pretty sure they didn’t shit in your breakfast cereal so you can stop acting like they did. It was one bad launch, not a pattern of bad games or anything like that. And they worked hard to remedy the issue. Just because you want MORE free stuff than the content they’ve added in the last two years, doesn’t make them a bad company. Kinda makes you sound bad tho…
Not to mention Fingers had the best Sandevistan and leg mods in the game and not punching him is SO HARD! Now neither of those mods are in the game anymore and you can safely beat the crap out of Fingers with no regrets.
This is an “expansion” not a “DLC” according to CDPR. It’s a lot bigger than your normal DLC. Up to you if you think that’s enough.
I think it’s also a chance for them to try to find some redemption. Journalists have a lot to sink their teeth into with the whole meta story of the game so I think that might have added some encouragement.
Yeah and the new reworked Berserker cyberware to go with it! Gorilla Arms with the new relic perks to make them explode people from punching too hard… tempting indeed!
Yeah the crafting change is huge. It frees up a lot of points from “mandatory” crafting so you can really branch out more. Builds should be a lot more interesting and hard to screw up now.
The big change with cyberware that I like is 1 - You don’t have to go to every ripperdoc (or some online wiki) to find the bits you need anymore. Every ripperdoc sells everything. and 2 - You can upgrade it as you level so you don’t have to worry about “wasting money” buying low tier stuff early that you’ll have to replace later.
The reviews so far have been fairly positive. I’m pretty eager to jump in to 2.0 tomorrow. I’ll have 5 days to get my new character ready for PL!
I just finished a playthrough a couple weeks ago with a Sandevistan+Katana build, which was SUPER fun! I was planning on going Stealth Netrunner for this play through but after seeing all the changes to the existing systems, I am tempted to go Sandy+Sword again. But I will probably control my urges and focus on Stealth to complement the “spy thriller” story of PL.
Modding maybe, but that doesn’t help console players. An eat button and HDR settings are so hilariously inadequate that I think the people excited for those changes already like the game and don’t see the actual issues.
