the starforce driver sometimes prevented some exotic cd drives from working or caused bsods while playing audio cds, but the cases were relatively rare

nvm i didn’t realize they were talking about a different kind of drm

well the gpu doesn’t care if it’s 2d or 3d, but you are rendering a whole bunch of textured triangles… (separated into tiles for fast partial or multithreaded re-rendering), and also just-in-time rasterizing fonts, running a complex constraint solver to lay out the ui, parsing 3 completely separate languages, communicating using multiple complex network protocols, doing a whole bunch interprocess communication in order to sandbox stuff

irc is booring and dated

(even though it’s much more robust than matrix and does not suffer from desyncs and stuff)

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

it’s not as big of an issue as on matrix.
stuff can desync and the server has to decide which state is canonical, dropping out some messages

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

also honestly I’d appreciate some extra buttons that are usually left unbound for macros and stuff

vox,

note: this is just a patent
patents usually don’t mean shit, sony (?iirc) has a patent for an ad system that requires users to say the name of the brand to continue, but we’re not seeing it around yet eh?

they srill advertise java for modding even though there’s no “official” support tho

Minecraft for windows is the old name for bedrock.
it was based on the same MCPE codebase

you don’t need to sign in, you can just sideload the appx package (it’s likely to fail due to license verification, there are ways around it tho, like stopping the licensing service)

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

actually bedrock servers are way more capable, bedrock has proper reconnect packets, custom ui frameworks (i.e. servers can do proper themed guis that look fucking awesome instead of relying on chests) and custom 3d models.

???
this has nothing to do with my comment

I’m talking about features available to server software, not addons.

bedrock servers can use custom 3d models natively, build fully custom native uis (instead of relying on chests) and reconnect players to other servers without resorting to terrible hacks like on the java edition
also bedrock server software itself is objectively much more efficient, there’s no point of even comparing it to the java server software, even unofficial servers like papermc.

It’s the main reason why cubecraft’s CTF mode is severely limited on the java edition, they basically crippled it just to allow the server to keep up

yes, the marketplace sucks ass but my point still stands.

they have a chance of damaging iirc

watch dogs comes to mind first, just because of the 3rd grade puzzle part

use legendary

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

egs games are drm-free and with Legendary it’s a really nice experience (I’m using legendary with playnite)
never lost my token/login
the epic servers are kinda slow tho

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

wasn’t lack of microtransactions and ads the whole point of these?

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

they can be easily patched to bypass Netflix account requirements btw, you only miss out on cloud saves

wait what?
the original port isn’t supposed to be region locked?
but also it doesn’t work on android 14 anymore, Play Store gives me an error saying it’s not compatible with the device.

vox,

i need just around 6 hours to last till 12 pm

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

he also posts on Reddit, I’d rather like that than fucking Instagram btw

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

yeah movement sucks ass in gtav (it’s fine while aiming tho)

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

no, they probably dont.
they just send it to your email upon registration, which is kinda a bad idea, but they are probably storing passwords hashed afterwards.

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

they can send it without storing. In fact a lot of websites (mostly small outdated forum systems) send your password to your email before storing it.

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

hashing on client side is considered a bad idea and almost never done.
you actually send your password “in plain text” every time you sign up.

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

these emails don’t usually get copied to local outbox folder (as any oher auto generated emails)

password may end up in cache somewhere tho…
and this is why it’s a bad idea and rarely done nowadays

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

passwords are usually hashed server-side tho and that’s done for a reason.
if handling passwords correctly, server side hashing is way more secure then client-side. (with client side hashing, hash becomes the password…)

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

drg is technically game as a service right? it works fully offline are relies on local save files and steam networking for lobbies

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

yeah if you’re severely gpu bottlenecked the difference is IMMEDIATELY OBVIOUS, especially in menus with custom cursors. (mouse smoothness while navigating menus is night and day difference), in-game it’s barely noticeable until you start dropping to ~30fps, then again: a huge difference.
