I never thought the music in nu-Doom was all that great anyway. Not compared to classic Doom at least. E1M1 is forever stuck in my head and if you hum a couple bars to anyone who has played it, they’ll immediately know the tune.

The music in nu-Doom is fine while you’re playing, but I can’t remember a single track.

Origins is better, in my opinion. It’s the black sheep but it’s my favourite in the series.

Arkham Knight is my least favourite but I still like it. If you really hate the tank sections, though, you might not like it no matter how long you play. That’s a pretty big part of the game, and it’s not great.

The story is also dumb.

major story spoilersIt would have been way better if Barbara was the arkham knight, having faked her death and the suit could have had mechanical legs to help her walk and her voice digitally altered to sound like a man. Instead we got another Jason Todd as the Red Hood with a different name.

ETA: I’m curious whether the downvotes are because I think Origins is better or because you don’t like my idea for how the story could have been improved.

“Helldivers 2 players get exactly what they wanted, still unhappy.”

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Or, more rationally, you all invested so much of yourselves into your gamer outrage campaign and built yourselves up as the underdogs fighting the big, mean corporation. And when, to your own surprise, you actually won and got all of your demands met without compromise, you still can’t let it go because you managed to incorporate all that upset over a video game into your personal identities over just a few days time.

So now, instead of celebrating your win, you’ll limply cling to your hatred of Sony for a few more days or weeks until everyone finds something else to get upset about.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I talk like I have seen this exact same thing happen over and over and I’m sick of capital-G Gamers throwing tantrums over every inconvenience. You aren’t Union Men fighting for your rights. You’re gamers upset by a TOS change to your new toy even though Steam was going beyond their own policy to honor refunds.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Aw, the gamer is upset I forced some introspection into their life.

But no, I’m sorry. You’re totally a noble warrior who fought back the evil Sony and now must remain ever vigilant lest Kazuo Hirai leap from the shadows and scream “Riiiiidge Racer” at you and take away your toys while Gabe Newell gives you your money back and sheepishly shrugs like “I know, right? This guy, man.”

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

The “random upset people” on the former side were perfectly happy to give their money to the “corp” on the latter side before the TOS change. This has nothing to do with how untrustworthy Sony has been in the past and everything to do with upset Gamers wanting to keep their outrage party going even after they got what they wanted.

I still love the aesthetic a lot of PS2 games have, with smooth, bright textures instead of a lot of detail that gets stretched and blurry at low resolutions. The way metal surfaces look in MGS2 and Zone of the Enders is really nice.

But then there are games like Silent Hill 2 & 3 that use a lot of detail in the low resolution textures to create a grimy or rusted look. Those games really benefited from working within the limitations of the system, like the fog to reduce draw distance.

Dreamcast was killed off so early and didn’t run alongside the others for most of the generation, so a lot of people consider it as more of an in-between system. Maybe not to someone who actually owned one, but given how poorly it sold the majority probably didn’t.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I could never get into the Ratchet and Clank games, except for Deadlocked which I know is generally disliked by fans. I was really into arena shooters at the time.

I’ve tried a bunch of the others and they are definitely good, but not my kind of game.

Same here. I find it isn’t powerful enough for a lot of modern PC games unless you drop the settings, but it’s amazing for retro and emulation. I’m living in 2004 again.

I never played Tricky but love SSX3 and On Tour. A lot of people fondly talk about Tricky, so is there anything about it that the later games lack?

DF Retro is so good.

Kinda like when Warner Music Group tried to strong arm the world over “Happy Birthday” but when they were finally challenged on it in court it was ruled that they never actually owned the copyright.

Good thing I already didn’t want this game. The trailers make it seem like Kay Vess will be an insufferable character to play as. I forgot how much I hated her personality in the reveal trailer but was reminded by the story trailer.

Nintendo: “Why do they not simply charge a monthly subscription to access 40-year-old games people have already bought three times?”

MamboGator,

I nearly said “20” but then realized I’m almost twice that old myself and the NES is a couple years older than me. Friggin’ millennials. We’re ruining the aging industry too.

Games from 1999-2007 aged really well. I’ve been playing Aliens vs Predator 2, No One Lives Forever and a bunch of GameCube, PS2 and Xbox games on my Steam Deck.

A team deathmatch game starring Marvel heroes could be good if the backstory was something like Quake 3 Arena. Marvel even has Battleworld which would be the perfect setup. But this is aesthetically way too similar to Overwatch which I have never liked the style of.

Looking for emotional game recommendations angielski

My favorite games are Omori, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. I cried for hours at the end of those games, and I think the common point in them is high-quality emotional writing and stellar OST (music really affect me) and my attachment to the characters....

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re okay with “walking sims”, Dear Esther is the only game that ever brought a tear to my eye. I played it shortly after someone close to me died and the ending really hit me.

It’s basically 100% “emotional writing” so it might be up your alley.

You should try Chinatown Wars for DS/PSP. It has the same top-down camera but with more modern gameplay sensibilities. It’s probably my second favourite GTA after 3.

Instincts is great, but I’m still technically correct (the best kind of correct) because it was a reimagined port of FC1.

I just looked up the Wikipedia article to check how many versions there were in total. There was the original, Instincts, Instincts: Evolution, Predator, Vengeance and Paradise Lost.

The game so great they made it six times.

I haven’t played the story mode part of the demo yet. It’s split into three sections: exploration, combat and story. I just tried the exploration part. I’m not even sure if the main character is supposed to be Slade.

I still have all my big box PC games, and they all have thick manuals full of lore, character biographies and art. We lost an art form.

Kind of along the same lines are Air Buccaneers and Guns of Icarus. Both are kind of like Sea of Thieves but with air ships. I don’t know how active the communities are for either these days.

Warner Bros owns Rocksteady and WB is absolutely destroying itself with bad decisions ever since the Discovery merger. They were already bad before, but David Zaslav seems to have made it his life’s mission to ruin everything he touches and is of course as hands-on as he possibly can be as CEO.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

As someone who has never played Dragon’s Dogma, but loves Dark Souls, but is “meh” on Monster Hunter, but loves Shadow of the Colossus, but isn’t generally a fan of JRPGs, do you think I would enjoy this? Those are all the things it seems similar to.

The only thing I really hated about Eternal was the Marauder. As a mini boss it was fine, but as a recurring enemy it absolutely kills the pace. I tried the DLC and as soon as I encountered another Marauder early on I turned it off and haven’t gone back.

It’s a shame because I really enjoy the lore, and contrary to yourself I liked most of the other changes Eternal made to nu-Doom. Fewer rooms where you get locked in until you defeat all enemies, mainly.

Most Mario games in general. I can play Mario Kart or some of the sports games with friends if someone else chooses them, but the singleplayer Mario games just aren’t fun to me. The only exception is The Thousand Year Door. I tried the other Paper Mario games and none were as good.

I also agree on BotW. Nintendo was chasing the survival game trend and I guess it paid off for them, but I find the world empty and boring, made worse by the dull colours in the art style. The worst part is the durability system. If there was a way to repair items it might be okay, but everything is like tissue paper. Even higher end weapons are gone after a few enemies, so eventually I just started avoiding combat entirely. I’m certain they did that and kept it that way in TotK because they couldn’t think of anything else to reward players with for exploring their empty world.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Insert comic of the guy in a staff meeting suggesting they fix complaints about durability by adding a simple repair system like every other game and Miyamoto throwing him out the window.

Yes. I don’t mean it has a piss filter like Xbox 360 games. I mean the lighting washes everything out. Compare this screenshot to one from Wind Waker or Skyward Sword.

Galaxy is actually the one I was playing when I realized I don’t like Mario games. I got about halfway through it, decided I wasn’t having fun and turned it off.

But I’m also not the only one who thinks the colours are washed out. Modders running the game on PC were able to increase the vibrance to something that actually looks appealing to me.

This is my take as well. The last Ubisoft game I enjoyed was Black Flag. It’s a shame because in the early 2000s they were great, but now they’re just churning out yearly sequels to turn Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry into Call of Duty.

Aspyr has done a great job porting a lot of the best Star Wars games to modern systems, including the Wii version of The Force Unleashed for Switch (my favourite version). I’m sure they’re handling this with care.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I have played their ports of The Force Unleashed, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I Racer and Republic Commando on PS4/Switch, all without any issues. Either KOTOR is an outlier or I got very lucky/have low standards.

I’ve played both but the Wii version first, so that’s probably part of it. But it’s also because the PS3/360/PC version really showcases the physics engine while the Wii version naturally focuses on the motion controls. I just wasn’t very impressed with the physics-centric combat and found it to be more flash than substance, but I really liked how the motion controls were utilized for the lightsaber and force powers. Grabbing enemies with the force choke power and then using the nunchuk controller to toss them around felt especially satisfying.
