Overall, a cruel and short-sighted move from Microsoft

That depends on who and how many they decide to merge into other developer teams and who is let go.

I mean, I doubt most MS higher-ups would know talent if you threw it at them. But whenever there’s big acquisitions, there’s gonna be some house cleaning. So who gets to stay (if they want to) is likely down to last things they have produced.

Redfalls team is done for sure. But Tango Works I don’t know… I can imagine overseas based companies are a more tricky beast to handle. So that’s probably down to some cost/benefit analysis if they go or stay.

Agreed. It’s sadly often the demands of the higher-ups reflects poorly on the guys who has to implement it.

I don’t know any of the Creative Directors on Redfall (or who else might have poked their head in with bright ideas).

I think it’s called “The Dungeon Keeper” or “It’s Construction Time” (dependent on game version).

There is an expiration date for IP. But I have little idea what type it goes under.

I just assume the reason old, barely functional games get the odd 1.3kb update every once in a blue moon is to “refresh” that expiration date.

I too would like more on-point classifications.

Like, we got 3 big classifications ARPG, CRPG and JRPG. And I guess that’s nice. But a bit of subclassification would go a long way, imo.

Now if only publishers would use these labels. But to them everything is just an RPG, because that’s an umbella everything fits under.

Let every purchase be a gamble.

I’m just saying thank the gods for Screenshots, ‘Let’s Players’. because labeling everything as just “RPG” is the same as just labeling every type of meat as just “Meat” and graphics cards as just “Graphics Card” in closed packaging with only the companies names to differentiate.

I like specifications on the products I might be buying.

Diplomacy is usually the way to go.

I realize that this is a foreign concept for Americans, but yes. The stopping of trade or even the threat of such, is a powerful tool indeed. And there is so many options within that concept that doesn’t involve arming every man, woman and child to the teeth and just letting them go at each other until something is resolved.

Because looking at the countries that encourage such, we see that things just tend to get even more complicated. More complicated and more violent.

One was a failed overhaul and the other got criticized for not having anything to do when it came out.

Without having seen the series I’m guessing yours is probably the most accurate descriptor I’ve seen so far.

Whenever it comes to fandoms like this, the camps are always so divided in extremes. And neither camp is usually correct.

I mean, I saw Twisted Metal season 1 and it was not good by means an “actual reviewer” would stand by. But was it enjoyable? Sure. (Probably more so if I was high while watching it.) Will it be remembered? Not by a long shot.

The Fallout TV Show is likely better than TM, but I doubt it will remembered alongside Breaking Bad, The Sopranos or even Futurama for that matter.

Doing my part in Helldivers at the moment.

That game gets my brain firing on all cylinders and although it has It’s frustrating moments, I’d say that overall I think it’s great. It’s one of the few 'Live-Service" games I actually enjoy.

(I think Neverwinter Nights belongs on the list as well, but I can’t attest to it as I’ve never played it.)

You can pick up most of them from GOG.COM for cheap.

There should be enough to keep you occupied for a while.

Subnautica and Raft are my go-to relaxed-fuzzy-happy games. Being able to do things at my own pace and just noodle around with whatever I feel like is nice.

That’s more of a battle between players. The more we buy mtx, the more will be shoved in and the less actual game for everyone.

The best Larian can do is keep being a better example.

All the more reason to keep it “quite” and expansive like the first game.

BZ was so noisy and tiny. That, combined with other players would be terrible.

I think OG Subnautica could be fun with a Co-op mode. But any more players than that would ruin it.

Personally, I’d say anything on PC that goes Storefront Exclusive or require a Subscription to play is an automatic “no go.”

And MS leans quite a bit on both of those concepts.

But alas, the rest of the world seems to be of a differente mind. So eventually everything not indie will likely go down that road.

Both yes and no. Epic hasn’t gotten anything out of their attempt. Xbox is another matter, they are still trying. It was more or less the point of buying all those developer studios. They are just not rushing it. But yeah, the plan is to get the Game Pass concept to a certain point of normalization. Which they’re quite close to achieving.

Palworld isn’t a MS Exclusive and the studios they bought haven’t churned out anything of note, yet. So it makes sense there hasn’t been any inclination of sudden growth in subscriptions.

But as I said, it’s a long con. The plan remains the same, get Game Pass into as many homes as possible. Let subscription become the new standard. It’s Microsoft after all, their track record speaks for itself.

You don’t have to agree with me, time will tell if it works out for them or not. But as for my part, I’m still actively against it and will stick to my guns about “Subscription Services and Storefront Exclusivity” being a no go.

“Doomsday Scenario” might be a bit much as a descriptor. XD

And yes, be it Nintendo, Sony, EGS or whatever, it’s the same deal. The biggest difference is simply that MS is so big that it not even close to a risk for them. As long as Xbox’s income evens out to zero and they aren’t actively losing money, it’s “a win” and they can easily make up for it and add to it until it starts making money. But it already does, so…

A juggernaut that size is hard to contend with and usually gets it’s way.

It will be interesting to see how many of InXile, Obsidian, Bethesda and ActivisionBlizzards future games will be Windows Store and Xbox exclusives. (timed or otherwise.) They are the new bargaining chips after all.

Yeah, but what EGS is doing isn’t competition.

If they had stuck with being a cheaper alternativ for Indie Devs and maybe followed it up with even more favorable deals for using their Engine and being on their platform, I wouldn’t have had a problem with them. It would have been a good strategy to compete with Valve.

Like GOG did with retro games. Tapping into something Valve didn’t focus on.

But they didn’t. It all came down to a shitty attempt at Storefront Exclusivity. And that isn’t competition, that is just removing customer choice.

The Devs take a pay for timed exclusivity and this helps development.

This is only in the case of Indie Devs. And again, only if the deal is struck before the game is done. For any studio tied to a publisher, it’s just money up front for the publisher.

Plus, I remember the stories some Devs told of how egs tried to strong-arm them into going exclusive. Didn’t score them any bonus points in my book.

But as I said, everyone has they’re own principles.

Booted the old Warframe and Path of Exile accounts back up. It’s been a hot minute.

Those two old games are still fantastic. And they just keep getting bigger! There’s always new content coming out.

I’m also trying out a new build in Baldurs Gate 3, which is always fun.
