Steam and/or deck will last longer probably. And it can work on multiple devices.

But heck you do you!

I still have both consoles. Still works. My wife and I play once in a while.

Steam Survey for July 2025 shows Linux approaching 3% (www.gamingonlinux.com) angielski

This is interesting for a couple of reasons. One is that this is about as much market share as Mac ever had at its peak, and almost twice as much as it has currently. Another is that, if you click the link for the site’s Steam Linux Data Tracker, you can see that English-only Linux market share (a crude way of filtering out...

The newer macs are also relatively in a state of flux with apple figuring out what works and what they want to invest in. Brew didn't work well for a good year after the M1 made its debut. I remember trying to get things working and it was a nightmare. It's still somewhat difficult to program for. And game devs often will do whatever it takes to release a game...which can include some strange code that only works on a blue moon or s very specific.net version.

It's getting better each year or so but I can't blame valve wanting to just skip all the ballony untl it's in a better place.

Agreed, I dont think its a good idea to have ANY company own near 100% of the market with PC gaming. Can you imagine the DRM and copyright protections shenanigans you could pull if you were the only effective player? Valve is mostly benevolent....but theres always a chance it goes downhill with just one asshole.

I dont claim to be in the video game industry only a dev. And macs can be easy or VERY hard to develop under depending on the underlining tools. If they dont have them....you basically have to build them from scratch (like Expo/mobile development, brew custom mac specific libraries, gnu tools that use a language not supported, etc... etc... ). If they have the libraries already installed, and is supported by apple, it becomes a breeze and, best yet, they are better than windows at less breaking changes. Not security mind, but breaking program changes. Or at least it seems like it last 10 years or so.

The M1 Arch was a departure but not from their own tooling, just everyone elses. That from what I understand a lot of games stopped working right when the M1-3 became a thing in steam. But again someone else can correct me if im wrong. I saw the effects from a friend trying to get steam working on a newer macbook pro but I am again not an expert when it comes to the gaming industry.

2 was exceptionally good. It fixed a lot of the bad fights/progression/story issues. I had a good time with it. Much better than 1.

Wonder how long it will take for them to start going after LGBT+ stuff. Hope I'm wrong.

I really want to like the new ff7....but it's just so buggy. angielski

I've been stuck at this boss all day, it kinda sucks. There's quite a few undefendable moves. You can't even block when it goes to its third form and takes about 1/2 health with its attack. With a character they pulled out of their butts....

The music and presentation is fantastic. The amount of filler...is a hit or miss. Combat is fine I guess, personally I would have loved a mode that would allow you to go full retro RPG, but I understand theres only so much you can do.

This is actually the second game breaking glitch I found with this particular game. The first is during a cutscene between cloud and Sepheroth. If you let it play out, the game crashes with a big "ERROR" and ok button. Then closes the game. I had to go online and find out how to fix that (just skip the scene and the error does not pop up).

Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a gallery angielski

This is probably going to seem wildly low-effort compared to my usual posts here, but I’ve found a bit of a treasure trove of print media gaming ads from magazines and sites. And they’re amazing. I found it so fun to see what companies used to do to promote their games....

My wife and I still have all three of these systems. All three still work. They are still fun.

One of my favorite (that works on the SP!): https://tangramgames.itch.io/tobu-tobu-girl-deluxe

Day 349 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing angielski

Today’s game is Sonic Mania. I wanted something quick and easy to jump into with tonight, and i picked this up on sale the other day. I grew up on Sonic 1-3, CD, and Knuckles so i have fond memories of the old 2D sonic (even though by the time i was born the genesis was far gone). I even put on the CRT shader! I didn’t know...

It has a port master version as well. It's a really fun game. Very well done.

Day 341 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing angielski

Today’s game is Ocarina of Time (my all time favorite Zelda game). Playing Mario Kart 64 yesterday had me in the mood to play this again. So i downloaded Ship of Harkinian and set it up along with a OoT 3D graphics mod that took longer to download than it should have. It looks really good. I have it upscaled to max resolution...

FFTactics like others was my favorite.

I quite enjoyed into the breach.

I bought a couple of tactics like games on steam and they all dont seem to be fun to me. I guess I like to grind a bit on fair but punishing tactics titles.

Yep give it a year or so. The emulator will be up and running.

True no one needs to fight for either company.

Great? I guess?

I'm mean it's good to have competition. But Steam is much better in many different things. I hope their next console is better.

At this point there is better fan made stuff. But yeah it would be nice.

Oh yeah I forgot about the modding! Yeah the language packs and such were really impressive and made the game a lot of fun to play again.

Woo Hoo! thats great.

Wait, that game is still playable online? angielski

Many of us only view a game’s release in passing, and view it as an “event”. Groundhog Smasher came out, it failed, and we don’t hear of it again. Additionally, many of us associate “online” games with being “live service” - expecting the developers to announce a new skin, battle pass, game mechanic, or character...

It's a pretty fun game. Wish there were more levels.

Steam Deck / Gaming News #16 angielski

Well, it’s that time again for this last week’s interesting gaming news I’ve spotted! While this week’s is the typical variety, it is also rather text-heavy, so you’ve been warned! As ever though, there’s Steam Deck, Linux, GOG, emulation, Switch and gaming in general in here :)...

mesamunefire,
@mesamunefire@piefed.social avatar

I used to volunteer for humble bundle back in the day. It was a lot of work but very rewarding. Getting a job with gog could be fun. Hope they get the people they need! I've always been impressed by what they are able to accomplish!

I did Linux testing of games and for the platform. This was before valve did a lot in the Linux space. You know the game dust force? One of the reasons it works for Debian is because of something I reported. It's a bunch of very small contributions over a 4 year period. Humble bundle even had their own internal issue tracker. It was technically my first fortay into QA and Linux dev work. Linux native games are awesome.

Nowadays we have proton/wine/etc... (and that's awesome) but Linux native apps have many advantages over an emulated layer. Power savings and CPU cycles just a couple. I'm glad we have so many options for games. Gog or otherwise.

Steam Deck / Gaming News #14 angielski

Well, it’s that time of the week where I share a roundup of all the interesting things I have spotted in gaming news. There’s a big variety this week, with a fair section of Nintendo Switch news, some GOG, some Steam Deck, Linux and just gaming in general....
