I 100% agree. Sekiro is my favorite of them all.

I plan to go back to it someday… I beat the recent remake on the hardest difficulty, and that was brutal. But the original still kicks my ass.

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

I can proudly say I’ve beaten 4 of those on the original hardware, but it was probably around 2010 or so as an adult.

(Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Mega Man 1)

That one is super hard, although I definitely haven’t truly committed to an attempt yet.

Have you tried the remake?

    I prefer how information dense and responsive steam is.

    Epic is laggy, logs me out constantly, and is inefficiently organized (at least by default). I don’t want to scroll through cards or change my sorting filters/layout each time I want to find something. When I open steam, it has a permanent tab that says LIBRARY at the top, and when I click on that, it gives me a massive scrollable list of my games, defaulting to A-Z. Simple is better.

    Plus, user reviews are really nice to have when considering dropping $ on something.

    The important thing is that they’re there when you want them

    Most of the time I hear S N E S (each letter pronounced individually) or Super Nintendo.

    I have heard “the Snes” (pronounced with an S sound instead of a Z), but I didn’t hear that commonly until much later, after it was considered a retro console.

    It really is a shame. I played so much OW1, and then suddenly it changed to be like all the other modern games with sleazy monetization that I avoid.

    It seems that publicly traded game companies simply can’t help themselves from becoming this (e.g. Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA).

    It’s very sad, but at least there are still a few private AAA companies and indies who seem to make fun games for the sake of fun games.

    I’m seriously concerned about this, yet I keep using steam because of the convenience.

    That game flopped so hard.

    Looked up a video of the gameplay last night, and it looks pretty cool. I wonder if it feels as good as it looks. Apparently this is a company that previously only made mobile games.

    I had never even considered that there might be randomizers for classics… I’m going to look up this one!

    The_Picard_Maneuver,
    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    Ok, this is something that I’m looking forward to trying. Just gotta figure out how you’re supposed to download these.

    The_Picard_Maneuver,
    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    I strongly agree with this. There are so many games out there that if you asked someone if they were excited to replay it, they just be confused. Like, what’s the point of playing a game that’s mostly going from cutscene to cutscene?

    The_Picard_Maneuver,
    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    I’ve seen the videos of these, although I’ve always been hesitant to mod my game.

    Thank you!

    Corrupted monk is one of the tougher fights. When I beat it the first time, I was just chipping away like you, and it took me forever.

    You can speed it up by parrying as much as possible to stance break.

    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    I fought with it the whole time on my first run too. It was too hard to unlearn all my dark souls muscle memory.

    I remember liking the Dreamcast version!

    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    This post looks like it was from 2018, so pretty early on in the game’s life.

    I remember it. People would get banned for using emotes if someone reported that they felt mocked. And people would report players that weren’t using meta characters for “gameplay sabotage”, and they would occasionally be banned.

    The_Picard_Maneuver,
    @The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

    looks like the “ban everyone all the time” solution didn’t quite pan out

    I think it’s a psychological trap that people fall into when in charge of anything. Being overly punitive feels like doing something, when often a lighter touch would be healthier in the long run.

    This happens with games, managers at work, parents with their kids, the justice system, or even moderation on forums like here or reddit.

    EVERY game feels less challenging these days, and it’s frankly disappointing.

    I don’t think it’s simply that I have more gaming experience either - I think it’s that studios are trying to maximize engagement by making games easy enough for everyone and their dog to complete.

    It’s become so rare that I really appreciate when a game (most indie or FromSoftware titles) actually presents itself as a challenge to overcome rather than “cutscenes between fetch quests”.

    Or, “I’m just going to waste it and die in 2 hits anyway.”
