Jakeroxs,

Hollow Knight sold 2.8m copies as of 2019

Modern Warfare (2019) sold 31m copies

Jakeroxs,

What’s your point? They released Fallout 4, Skyrim Special Edition, VR editions of both, Fallout 76 and Starfield since then

The worst out of the list being FO76

Jakeroxs,

BG3, Larian wasn’t exactly a powerhouse of gaming prior to it

Jakeroxs,

Unless you’ve got some weird special option, they’re right, as soon as you launch a game in your library, it becomes unusable to family sharing, my wife and I use it but it’s very limiting in that aspect.

It even notifies you when the “family library” becomes available.

Jakeroxs,

Except these aren’t two different kinds of stores, they’d both be gaming marketplaces and if one has better features in every regard… Why use the inferior one at all?

Jakeroxs,

Then developers can release games off steam, and some do.

But steam has many features people want and use that would add development costs if every dev had to make similar tools in house.

Think SteamVR, Steam Controller, workshop, community forums, steam achievements, steam overlay, friends, etc …

Jakeroxs,

Then why isn’t GOG bigger?

Jakeroxs,

What does that have to do with Valve?

Jakeroxs,

Do you think they wanted it to be abused? It’s pretty obvious they didn’t like the way it went which is why they got rid of it…

Jakeroxs,

It literally is in practice.

Jakeroxs,

Who was replying to someone talking about Valve

Jakeroxs,

I just don’t think that’s the case with Valve, they work on steam and add new features consistently, it’s not like they’re providing no value for the cut they take.

I get where you’re coming from though and way too many companies get away with that kind of situation. Just what capitalism often gives us :/

Jakeroxs,

Lol I see you don’t have an actual response so you move the goal post

Jakeroxs,

Generally companies do provide a service of some sort, the problem is that the higher ups who generally do less actual “work” rake in way way more then the average worker of the company.

Especially true for larger corps like Amazon

Jakeroxs,

Weird because I provided actual services and functionality that steam provides in exchange for that cut, and your response was that me mentioning devs do have other options isn’t “understanding criticism”

So do you have an actual response or…?

Jakeroxs,

So you didn’t actually read my comment, cool.

Jakeroxs,

Do you think it’s simple for a developer to create a friends list network, host/moderate community forums, host/moderate a mod website integrated into the game, achievements syncing, ability to share the game with friends, and integrate VR functionality for the above, on their own dime?

These are recurring ongoing costs for server and continued developmental changes, you are severely underestimating the time and money cost to create/host/maintain all those services?

$70 Mortal Kombat 1 Switch version called "robbery" as graphical comparisons flood the internet (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

Fans have taken to the likes of X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok to question NetherRealm's decision to market Mortal Kombat 1 as a $70 Switch release. It has been called "robbery" and "disrespectful" to users.

Jakeroxs,

Couldn’t be arsed to what?

Jakeroxs,

That’s not how power works lol

Jakeroxs,

I spent like 15 minutes looking up and comparing the minimum requirements on PC for mortal Kombat 1 (a game I have no intention of ever playing) and the CPU and GPU of the switch, pointing out that the GPU and CPU of the switch are both so far below even the minimum requirements on PC (which are pretty low tbh)

Jakeroxs,

People definitely do and can

Jakeroxs,

Right… I’m not sure what your point is exactly with that, doom came out in 1993 and had extremely low requirements and looks as dated as it is. Of course it can run on machines like fridges or ATMs or calculators in more recently made devices because the power of the chips in these machines are better then PCs back when doom released.

Jakeroxs,

It is just going forward starting Jan 1 I think

Jakeroxs,

I think that’s what he means, he could load faster if the animation didn’t exist and instead of using the time for the animation to load, you get the animation then a loading screen.

Jakeroxs,

They had gm tools in divinity original sin 1 (I think? Maybe it was 2) didn’t ever get used afaik

Jakeroxs,

There is space combat

Jakeroxs,

Your point is?

Jakeroxs,

You could skip fast traveling to your ship, or do any of the plethera of quests instead of what you’re doing

Jakeroxs,

Is it? I find it pretty fun, sure games like everspace did it better, but that is literally a space dogfighting game lol.

NMS space combat is noticably worse in comparison, and some of the upgrade paths and the ability to adjust your reactor usage (very reminiscent of FTL) make it interesting enough for me.

Jakeroxs,

Nah I mean you can just fast travel off the planet without first having to fast travel back to your ship, a few less loading screens and menu interactions right there.

Jakeroxs,

Definitely saves some time and extra loading screens/menu navigation, sorry I wasn’t clear with what I meant initially.

Jakeroxs,

As someone who’s been subbed to Puredark for months for his various dlss+fg mods, it makes a big difference!

Jakeroxs,

If it’s so easy I wonder why no one else does it for free?

Jakeroxs, (edited )

Link? This post is literally talking about one that’s pirated from PureDark, and I do mean dlss+fg, not just dlss since that was apparently very easy to implement with how Beth implemented FSR, which Puredark did release day1 for free on nexusmods.

Jakeroxs,

Dude is just trying to make a living, he’s not some megacorp, what is wrong with you? Didn’t find another dlss+fg mod that wasn’t the pirated one mentioned here?

Curious

On the point about capitalism, yeah I mean if we had socialism and people didn’t have to worry about putting food on the table, I’d bet there’s be a lot more free passion projects released, sadly that’s not the world we live in, and I’m fine with throwing him $5 bucks a month, he’s made many dlss+fg mods for various games.

Jakeroxs,

Cool, seems like it’s less stable then puredarks, but I’m glad people have options

What point was I dodging?

Do you think devs don’t put in any work for mods or something? I guess I don’t understand your point, I love that so many modders are able to release things for free and maybe end up with a job at a game dev company or end up releasing their own games like with enderal.

At the same time I can’t really fault people for trying to make money to keep themselves afloat so they can dedicate more time to making mods, learning new techniques, etc…

It’s really not as simple as you seem to think to port dlss+fg as you seem to think, and they’re not just copy pasting code from some free public info, it’s simply more complex then that, if you really can’t understand that you probably aren’t very informed on how development and coding work.

I personally don’t have the brain/attention span to code, I’ve tried multiple times but I just can’t do it, but through those attempts I understand how in depth and difficult it can be and it is most certainly real work.

Jakeroxs,

This is just a terrible argument, try taking that same logic and applying to to the Internet, should people not be allowed to sell software on the Internet because they didn’t personally create the Internet and aren’t giving kickbacks to the people who did create it?

Jakeroxs,

That really doesn’t apply to the conversation, but okie dokie

Jakeroxs,

Not my experience at all, looks really nice, I did get rid of the overblown LUTs tho for a neutral one from nexusmods.

There are definitely some silly things like some of the random gen NPCs look… Disturbing sometimes.

Other then that though, very detailed environments, textures are very high quality and shadows/lighting is good

Jakeroxs,

People were going to shit on it no matter what, literally the only game in recent memory that the Internet didn’t shit on was Baldurs Gate 3, and that’s probably mostly because it’s a much smaller company.

Bg3 is great don’t get me wrong

Jakeroxs,

What about Larian?

Jakeroxs,

Oh I thought you were saying they had some similar senior staff depart the company after bg3 released

Jakeroxs,

I don’t see anything about Larian letting go of people after bg3 release

Jakeroxs,

Gotcha, so Baldurs gate 1 and 2 were released by bioware it 1998 and 2000 respectively, the lead writer for those games was let go by bioware recently, Larian is a completely separate company that got the IP rights to do BG3 👍 I can see where the confusion came in lo Edit: More context in the development section of en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur's_Gate_3

Jakeroxs,

? Care to expand on that?

Jakeroxs,

So what it went from $20 to $35? Game has been out for a long time and updated quite a bit in that time. Also if the devs don’t want to put it on sale… that’s their decision 🤷‍♂️

They don’t do any of the other bullshit other big game companies do, and $35 isn’t even close to the $60-70 other games with a much lower playtime ceiling charge.

Without actually reading the content itself, I’d hazard it probably wasn’t great for the dev to go off, but I understand how it could be incredibly annoying to have a bunch of people online crying about a small price increase for. A game they likely already owned.
