JackbyDev,

Literally the only game I’ve heard of on this thread so far lol.

JackbyDev,

HyperRogue has 352 reviews. It is a rogue like that is played on a hyperbolic plane rather than a euclidian one.

If you’re not familiar with hyperbolic geometry, don’t be fooled by the videos. It has the illusion of looking like it is on a sphere in many of the videos. It’s not! Also, you don’t need to be some master of hyperbolic geometry to play. I don’t really understand it but can still play the game well enough.

Essentially, imagine a hexagonal grid. Now, replace some of those hexagons with septagons (7 sided). The further away you get from a point there will be way more tiles in the hyperbolic grid than the euclidian.

The UI is pretty bad, the menus are pretty icky. Those are my only real complaints.

The game is charming. It has.a very retro feel to it. The music reminds me of something of hear from an old school point and click game or RuneScape. The graphics are minimal but charming.

The mechanics are easy enough. You get hit and you die. Most enemies die in one hit. There are no weapons or stats. It’s more like chess in a way. The game will also not let you accidentally move somewhere you’d die, so, yes, very much like chess with checkmates.

Because the game is so simplistic you can get into a flow state where you quickly move and attack enemies. It’s very satisfying to play.

JackbyDev,

I want to like Chimera Squad but every mission feels the same. I love the character based approach though. Also it was fun having aliens on the team for once.

Xcom 2 and Chimera Squad both had some annoying UI problems but luckily they were fixed (for the most part) by mods.

JackbyDev,

I only ever played the first one. I firmly believe it has one of the best soundtracks of all time.

It genuinely upsets me that Valve spent their time and resources on another Dota variation angielski

Like for many other people, Valve single player experiences were one of my favorite of all time growing up. I considered both Half-Life and Portal to be masterpieces. It’s true they’ve always been distracted with multiplayer games as well, things like Counter-Strike or Team Fortress and I did play them for sure, because I...

JackbyDev,

I miss Super Monday Night Combat. (This is utterly unrelated to the post other than being a shooter/moba.)

JackbyDev,

For me it was the themeing. Games like League of Legends try to come up with weird reasons why the games work the way they do and it feels silly. SMNC leaned into the goofiness. Instead of killing a dragon for gold you’d have to catch the Mascot. I wanna say you’d get stuff from brands to help you out but I can’t remember.

JackbyDev,

Further, just because a name like that came be “copyrighted” doesn’t mean the rest of the game isn’t lmao.

If I made Nuclear D.C., a post apocalyptic game set it the Fallout universe in Washington D.C. as a followup to Fallout 3, I wouldn’t magically be okay just because it’s set in a “real” place.

JackbyDev,

By the time I got to the end and didn’t have a few secret achievements I was angry because I solved the puzzle entirely. Great game, probably my most common recommendation, but it doesn’t fit this category exactly.

That said, I was much less frustrated than I woukd be for other games.

JackbyDev,

It was my first video game device as a child!

JackbyDev, (edited )

This is why you may remember some games on Game Boy Color being monochromatic and others having rich color palletes while all of those still working on non-Color Game Boys. That said, there actually were some games that truly did require a Game Boy Color to play and would give an error screen on Game Boy Pocket.

JackbyDev,

The weird voxel graphics turned me off but the concept is really cool.

We need more games like The Stanley Parable, so I'm making one! Please share ideas and suggestions about what you want to see in this type of game! (store.steampowered.com) angielski

Hello guys, I’ve noticed a lot of people here are hungry for more games like the Stanley Parable. After playing the O.G. game and the Deluxe edition I’ve found myself wanting more of this. More of these meta, narrator led, weird humour games! I started work on my called Do Not Press The Button (To Delete The Multiverse). You...

JackbyDev,

They narrate Dungeons 3 which is also an interesting game. (Not similar though.)

JackbyDev,

For a Gameboy suggestion, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. This is the first game featuring Wario. You can complete the worlds in any order. When you get a game over you lose all the Golden Coins you’ve obtained which act.as keys to enter the final world. So you still have to reheat the final stage in each world again if you get a game over. One of the worlds is a giant mechanical Mario you get to go through!

I haven’t played this, but the next game in the “series” is Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 lmao. But I have played Wario Land II. Wario Land II is interesting because you cannot die in the game. Getting hit makes you lose a few coins and that’s it. When a boss hits you you get sent back in the stage a bit. Rather than having power ups, some of the enemies affect you. For example, if a bee stings you then you begin to swell up and float. If you’re lit on fire then you catch on fire and can burn certain blocks. These are fun because they’re oftentimes the only way to progress.

A lot of Gameboy games were kinda crappy. No offense to them or if you liked them, but these two still really hold up. They look and sound amazing. It’s a shame to me that so many people seem to remember and are nostalgic for the first Super Mario Land but haven’t played the second which is WAY better.

JackbyDev,

Pretty sure you drag it to pico 8 to open it. The game is in the image. Then once it is loaded you can save how you’d like.

JackbyDev,

A lot of things that “run doom” are just streaming the graphics from another place. In that sense it can probably still “run doom”

JackbyDev,

I liked Subnautica 1 but I feel like it took me way too long to find a few key blueprints and I’m not sure if it’s because the game is designed weird or if I just couldn’t find them.

JackbyDev,

Listen, Crusader Kings 3 is really interesting. You’re specifically playing the ruler of your nation, not the nation itself. You’ll play as your heir when you die. It’s much more roleplay oriented than other grand strategy games. Even Total War Three Kingdoms with its focus on the characters and their relationships doesn’t come close. Give it a look.

And obviously Stellaris.

Dev of cancelled Life By You game shares some information, including just two weeks notice of cancellation after being given the thumbs-up a few weeks prior (www.linkedin.com) angielski

I cannot share specific numbers, but I can say that we had an internal metric we were aiming for that had been approved, and that we exceeded that number by a significant portion. We also got a thumbs up a few weeks before launch.

JackbyDev,

This would destroy me if this happened to me. The publisher thinks lowly enough of the team and product that they won’t launch it, but not so lowly that they don’t release the IP (perhaps even at a price) to the developers.

JackbyDev,

I love ACNH’s style where people are cartoony, but furniture is more detailed.

JackbyDev,

ES6 will have a voiced main character.

JackbyDev,

Idk, having only played Oblivion and Skyrim, I feel like (generally speaking) the simplifications in Skyrim were for the better. Take custom spells for example. Only a few spells really even made sense to make and it was better to make them in very specific ways. It’s not like the games are super difficult. Fucking around with spells and more complex enchantments was cool but too easy to cheese.

Oh, and the leveling. Holy fuck what an over complicated mess. Where you could accidentally over level but also under level. Insane. Good riddance.

Complex systems are not inherently good. They’re good if they provide meaningful choices and are fun to use. But ES has always been about the story and exploration more so anyways (in my opinion).

JackbyDev,

I don’t think the announcement implies anything. Truly. It’s just them trying to get shareholders happy about hype.

JackbyDev,

This is more like buying a used game and describing it like that would be less confusing lol

JackbyDev,

It feels weird to phrase it like this. I didn’t buy my PS4 11 years ago. I bought it 5 years ago.

JackbyDev,

PS2 definitely had online play. I never played online but my friend did.

JackbyDev,

I have replayed Half Life 2 a few times. Some parts of the game feel really goofy now. There are many physics based puzzles in game. Like needing to weigh down a see saw like platform with cinder blocks to get across a gap. I think at the time these were really revolutionary, but they feel silly now. At the same time, I’m hard pressed to think of shooters that still include that type of puzzle (but I also don’t play many shooters nowadays).

JackbyDev,

Ravenholm was terrifying! The fast zombies’ roars along with them jumping across buildings really got to me.

JackbyDev, (edited )

I seriously doubt that. Bethesda’s titles are generally some of the most moddable mainstream titles. I missed sarcasm.

JackbyDev,

Minecraft has procedural stuff but still has lots of mods.

JackbyDev,

Whoops. Chalking this up to Poe’s law

JackbyDev,

So long as this is only about the pre release and not about the game at all stages. Review embargoes are somewhat normal prior to launch.

JackbyDev,

I’ve heard that this happened with Scrubs (and possibly other TV shows) leading to the original box set of DVDs having different songs playing in the background than the streaming versions.

JackbyDev,

Your spoiler syntax is incorrect (or not working on Jerboa).

JackbyDev,

My friend works here and is not getting their contract renewed. Luckily they knew it wasn’t getting renewed but it still sucks. They’ve loved working there.

JackbyDev,

Their contract wasn’t ended as far as I know and would’ve been ending in about a month or so anyways.

JackbyDev,

My understanding is that there are performance problems too though. But I haven’t kept up with it too closely.

JackbyDev,

Not that there are many pro NFT folks here, but even with that approach it’s still just a transferrable license that they can change to be meaningless.

JackbyDev,

But once it’s out it’s out. I at least understand the logic of DRM from launch because it delays cracks, but once you’ve released without DRM it’s out there lol.

  • JackbyDev,

The PS1 even boots straight into the game, the PS2 boots into a small menu. I feel like there was a way to have it skip the menu though but I don’t remember. …But hey, you’ve got one in front of you lol.

    JackbyDev,

Alright maybe my memory is just off. Or… maybe I’m from a parallel reality that was slightly different.

    JackbyDev,

Encrypted passwords are still an unacceptable way to store passwords. They should be hashed.

    JackbyDev,

emailing out credentials like this after sign up is certainly not best practice,

Understatement of the year right here. Everyone in this thread is more interested in dunking on OP for the few wrong statements they make rather than focusing on the fact that a service is emailing their users their password (not an autogenerated “first time” one) in plaintext in an email.

    JackbyDev,

“Kinda a bad idea?” This is fucking insane.

    JackbyDev,

You’re correct and after reading more of the thread I saw OP say this was sent immediately after registering. I don’t have reason to believe it is stirred in plaintext unless they’re storing s copy of every email they send.
