JackbyDev,

I wonder if a fan mod of DK64 where the bananas aren’t colored would fix many of the problems. I feel like that one small change might fix a lot of complaints. I haven’t played it though.

JackbyDev,

Refusing to acknowledge that queer people exist is “political” and queer people engaging in escapism deserve to feel seem and included.

JackbyDev,

BotW and TotK were both really good. Don’t mistake this as me saying “Nintendo is good actually”, more like a broken clock is right twice a day sort of statement.

JackbyDev,

Competition is good. If the Switch didn’t exist then I don’t think we would’ve gotten the Steam Deck.

JackbyDev,

You’re contradicting yourself. If you believe the Steam Deck exists purely independently from the Switch and that we would’ve had the Steam Deck before the Switch if the Switch never existed, but we didn’t, it came after.

And no, I don’t think it invented some sort of magic technology, obviously I don’t think that. I’m saying the Steam Deck was good competition for the Switch in the portable/docked market (whatever we wanna call those).

JackbyDev,

TotK didn’t have real dungeons? Huh? I disagree with that criticism for BotW, but I can at least understand why people say it.

But I’m not gonna get into this. I like them. They’re very popular. A certain vocal subset of the Zelda fandom hate them. A certain vocal subset of the Zelda fandom has hated a lot of more opinionated Zelda games on release only to view them more favorably later. People loathed Wind Waker on release, but now tons of people love it. I think these games will be viewed more favorably by fans long term. Yes, they’re different from the others, but not all of them need to follow the same formula. Variety is the spice of life.

For example, I really enjoyed Link’s Awakening HD.

JackbyDev,

There’s not a reason to fight most enemies in most video games to be honest. TotK mostly fixed the weapon breaking mechanic in my eyes. They’re much more durable now and last longer when fused (there is generally no reason to not do fusion). The only thing that’s more fun in BotW than TotK is riding a horse through Hyrule field while dodging tons of guardian lasers.

JackbyDev,

You only think a game is fun if you’re willing to 100% it?

JackbyDev,

I don’t get this line of thinking… If you’re using arguments like “you can run past them but it’s safer to kill them so they stop attacking” how does that not apply to BotW/TotK? Obviously some eneny camps you ignore because they’re irrelevant, it is an open world game after all, all open world games are like that (many learned the hard way why you should ignore giants in Skyrim lol). But in areas where you’re trying to accomplish something, you “need” to kill them because they’re attacking. That’s still true.

You can’t say “I dislike the game because it doesn’t give me a reason to kill enemies” while saying “in Doom you don’t need to kill enemies but it’s easier if you do” when BotW/TotK are both easier if you kill enemies. And I know you’re not the one who said it, but you’re changing the context of the conversation.

JackbyDev,

You’re saying if we didn’t have the Switch we would’ve had the Steam Deck earlier but you’re also saying the Steam Deck is something totally independent of the Switch. But if it was totally independent, why do you think it would’ve come earlier if the Switch didn’t exist? That’s why I’m saying you’re contradicting yourself.

JackbyDev,

You did not say might you said it would.

JackbyDev,

What are you arguing with? I don’t see your comment as contradictory to theirs at all.

JackbyDev,

Remind me and I’ll look into it. I have BL2 but never ever played it back in the day.

JackbyDev,

You would’ve been 16 years old on launch if you’re 39 now though.

JackbyDev,

BLUE PRINCE! IT IS SO GOOD!

It’s a puzzle game like Myst, and a puzzle game like a board game sort of. So it has short term and long term puzzles. It’s so good! I’m obsessed.

JackbyDev,

I did play Obra Dinn! I loved it.

JackbyDev, (edited )

Feels odd to include Pyre over Hades.

JackbyDev,

The CTR reboot on Switch is possibly the worst game I have played in Switch. The loading screens are, no joke, like 40 seconds long. Every race you have to wait 40 seconds to play. The faces themselves are (depending on the track) 2.5 minutes or so.

One small positive is that it has the option to use the original music instead of remastered music. The Crash trilogy reboot is great, but that’s one thing I really really wish it had. The new music isn’t bad but it just doesn’t hit the same way.

JackbyDev,

The Misadventures of Tron Bonne!

JackbyDev,

Crash 1 can fuck off. It’s hard and boring. It’s just these segments of very long very precise jumping. It’s hard to really put into words that make sense if you haven’t played it, but I’ll try for other readers. It’s like you don’t jump very high, which isn’t really a problem, but it just feels like it should be higher. Plus, it feels like the hitboxes for obstacles are really huge.

JackbyDev,

Mario + Rabbids is fun though.

New Game Concept: JuryNow – Get a Verdict from 12 Real People in 3 Minutes (www.jurynow.app) angielski

**JuryNow **is a new browser-based game where you ask a yes/no (or Option 1/2) question and get a verdict from 12 strangers around the world in 3 minutes. While you wait, you do 3 minutes of JuryDuty answering other people’s questions. There are comments or discussions, just clean, human decisions....

JackbyDev,

This was what I understood stamets to mean as well. I thought it was pretty obvious. I had the same thought opening it. Still cool though.

JackbyDev,

Getting that good is going to take longer than two hours for a total beginner.

JackbyDev,

Not to sound like a Steam simp, but they put a lot of faith in Steam Guard. Gabe Newell shared his password. This is old information and he may have changed it, also I don’t know if there were problems. escapistmagazine.com/gabe-newell-gives-away-perso…

It’s not a good comparison, but it is funny to talk about. The founder of LifeLock trusted his product so much that he put his SSN on billboards and television ads. His identity was stolen 13 times. www.wired.com/2010/05/lifelock-identity-theft/

JackbyDev,

How’d you mod it after you bricked it?

JackbyDev,

Ah okay, thanks. I’m too scared to mess with most hardware so not always up to date on the terminology. My tinkering is exclusively desktop/laptop stuff.

Palworld confirms ‘disappointing’ game changes forced by Pokémon lawsuit (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

With the implementation of Patch v0.5.5 this week, we must make yet another compromise. From this patch onward, gliding will be performed using a glider rather than with Pals. Pals in the player’s team will still provide passive buffs to gliding, but players will now need to have a glider in their inventory in order to glide....

JackbyDev,

Look, if the problem is the similar designs then sue for that!

JackbyDev,

How the fuck do you recommend DDLC when OP says non-violent?

OP, DDLC is a fun game, but there’s a reason it’s tagged psychological horror. It’s not just a meme. I won’t elaborate in case folks wanna try it out. I do suppose it is a “girly” horror though.

JackbyDev,

It’s so crazy to me that ads pay less and subscriptions cost more.

Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version (www.gamesradar.com) angielski

Full title: Ubisoft says you “cannot complain” it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren’t “deceived” by the lack of an offline version “to access a decade-old, discontinued video game”...

JackbyDev,

without controversy

Anno 1800 was an Epic exclusive (and Ubisoft’s Uplay) for a year on release. It was available for pre order on Steam. I believe people that bought it on Steam prior to the one year exclusivity deal still got it. It was a whole thing though. Definitely would call it a controversy.

JackbyDev,

They didn’t get rid of it, they’re allowing you to upgrade to 11 and calling it unsupported. Just like 10 is unsupported.

JackbyDev,

Yes, the “not supported” thing is just their terminology. They could decide to stop pushing them at any time. Though technically they could pull the plug on anything whenever, but they’re explicitly saying “we might stop supporting these unsupported Windows 11 installations at any time.”

Your all-time favorite game? Let's discuss the best options! angielski

I feel like my “all-time favorite” changes depending on my mood, but if I had to pick just one, I’d probably go with The Witcher 3. That game just hit all the right notes—amazing story, incredible world-building, and so much stuff to do without feeling like pointless filler. Plus, the expansions were just as good, if not...

JackbyDev,

I think Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was amazing. The only gripe I have is that the Switch just can’t handle it very well.

It’s hard to answer this because if you’d asked me 5 years ago my answer would be different (not just because TotK hadn’t released) because my tastes change.

JackbyDev,

You can’t say something like that without elaborating! How did it change you?

JackbyDev,

I don’t see any new posts since 7 months ago. (Unless my instance stopped federating.)

JackbyDev,

CK3 is really cool. It’s completely spoiled me on games like Civilization now. Being able to play as a person instead of some abstract concept of your empire is so fascinating to me. Things like worrying about how your child’s holdings will look once you die based on succession is fun.

JackbyDev,

For me it was seeing people say that the character mechanics of Total War: Three Kingdoms were like a watered down version of CK. I hadn’t heard of it before. CK2 was the latest at the time and the UI in it is awful. Luckily CK3 came out soon.

JackbyDev,

Doesn’t “nice but short but the meat is in the world and side missions” describe most RPGs nowadays?

JackbyDev,

How did they screw over Fallout London devs?

JackbyDev,

Oblivion’s scaling was so wonky. Especially compared with what I really believe to be one of the worst leveling systems of all time. Anyone defending the leveling in Oblivion is nostalgic or thinks things are good just because they’re complicated. Being able to both under AND over level was such weird design.

JackbyDev,

Couldn’t you just kill primary quest givers and be locked out of the game?

JackbyDev,

How? I don’t care how long a game takes to make, I want it to be good.

JackbyDev,

You think they intentionally released a patch just to screw over some mod devs?

JackbyDev,

A positive thing to be able to accidentally not be able to progress in the story?

JackbyDev,

How breaking was it? I guess that’s more important context

JackbyDev,

I’m not ignoring anything, I don’t know what is and isn’t in the game, what’s why I asked.

What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS (refresh rate). ?

For me, anything 25 FPS or higher is 100% fine and I’ll be enjoying my time. I never play competitive online shooter games ever, though. All single player ones like GOW and the likes. I game on a 60 Hz 4k monitor. GPU is AMD RX 6600 alongside Ryzen 7 5700G and 32GB RAM. My games are set to meduim most of the time at 4k....

JackbyDev,

It’s not like I notice it more when I have a frame rate counter turned on, I’m just not questioning how bad or how often the drops are when I have it enabled.
