Honytawk,

You bought a device dedicated to games when you were poor???

Honytawk,

But she isn’t an archeologist

She is a Tomb Raider

It is literally in the title!

Honytawk,

What? And get stuck in places because you didn’t see the not-so-obvious object you needed to interact with?

Yeah, fuck that.

Honytawk,

Bullshit. Someone knew exactly what they were doing.

Honytawk,

I believe they started 12 years ago

Honytawk,

True, depending on the game of course.

I’ve been thinking of a mouse / controller hybrid solution being the ultimate gaming peripheral. Joystick to walk and drive, mouse to aim. Should easily hold its own in PC shooters and console racers.

Honytawk,

Nobody would ever pay you to play a game. There is no way there isn’t an alternative motive.

the secret recipe (beehaw.org) angielski

[alt text: a semi-surreal meme image on a plain white background. Two characters from Dark Souls are saying, “My lord, we have absolutely ESSENTIAL lore information for the player. Should we make a cutscrene for it?”. They are looking at Hidetaka Miyazaki, who has the From Software logo emblazoned over him, and he is...

Honytawk,

It’s nonsense because it is boring and generic.

You could have just not read it and it wouldn’t change a thing.

Honytawk,

Didn’t know Minecraft had so much wind it needed to be broken.

Honytawk,

Tried doing that as well

Was confused why I couldn’t get it working and why my desktop didn’t have a <header> tag

Honytawk,

Some newer games only needed one game to play with 4 players.

I believe Mario Kart was one of them, then some other game with a motorcycle looked from the side.

I played those on the Gameboy Advance with the nieces and nephews during family parties.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world) angielski

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

Honytawk,

The cheap downgraded version, yes

Honytawk,

There isn’t a single game without bugs

Honytawk,

Java is (or at least used to be) one of the first languages new programmers started with.

Making it very accessible to create new mods.

Honytawk,

Every Final Fantasy game is a completely different game/story with different characters and different settings.

The only thing that is slightly common is their hair styles.

Honytawk,

To be honest, the episodes are like max 15 minutes of actual content if your remove the intro, outro and all the recaps.

But One Piece suffers from what every long anime suffers, long outdrawn stories that get stretched (pun intended) over too many episodes. There are arcs lasting over 100 episodes. In those episodes, not much happens, but always something happens to try to keep the interest of the viewer. But the main culprit are the flashbacks.

Flashbacks happen so frequently in those series, it is like reading a book and every couple of pages they copy one of their pages from a previous chapter in its entirety. I too can write a 300 page book like that.

Anyway, it should be illegal for people to recommend anything with more than a 1000 episodes.

One Piece has some incredible awesome moments, but the dull moments in between don’t make up for it.

Honytawk,

If a game isn’t interesting from the start, then the game is badly designed.

MMO’s are made for people who can put multiple hours a day into it. To them having to grind is part of the course. For everyone else it is a waste of time.

Just imagine having to grind 8 hours for a specific item. To someone who can only play a single hour a day after the kids are asleep, that is an entire week of playtime. It just isn’t worth it when they could have spend that same amount of time on a different game where they got to kill like 5 bosses.

Honytawk,

600 hour story driven RPG?

How many of those 600 hours are actually story?

Honytawk,

I was really hoping for some standalone campaigns in the same engine though

Honytawk,

If you are going to play Divinity 2, start with Divinity 1

They both have differences in mechanics, but play about the same. The only main difference is that Divinity is only 2 player, while Divinity 2 is 4 player like BG3

Also, the mechanics of both Divinity games are build around it being video games. Meaning it is a better experience. In comparison with BG3, which was build as a TTRPG and only converted to a video game.

The only things I miss with Divinity are the cutscenes. Otherwise they would be as perfect (or even better) than BG3.

Honytawk,

That’s just BG3

Honytawk,

Strange, because that is the opposite of every D&D game ever.

The story gets written at the table, at which point the world building should have already been mostly created.

Honytawk,

I would have said the same with Divinity 1&2 before BG3 came out

Games keep improving and we will get an even better CRPG in a couple of years that is “even more perfect” than BG3

Honytawk,

Not less handcrafted, but AI enhanced on top of the already excellent written dialogue.

If I want my entire BG3 gameplay to be about grilled cheese, then I would be able to when talking to every NPC while still getting the excellent story about mindflayers. The cheese is just on top.

Honytawk,

Just don’t enter any real info, and use a spam email address.

What are they going to do? Check?

Loads of companies think I’m from Zimbabwe

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend? angielski

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

Honytawk,

Yeah, I’d also recommend more casual games.

Good that she likes organizing, but Factorio is way over the head of any non-gamer. Doubt it would keep her entertained for long. Its only great if you like micromanaging and meticulously playing around with game mechanics. Which usually only happens after being exposed to gaming long enough.

It Takes Two is much better for a beginner since it isn’t a punishing game.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is an other great couple game.

We were Here if both of you like puzzles.

Honytawk,

It is mostly kid friendly.

Just the scene with the elephant is thrown in as a bit of a joke. But can be quite brutal if the child is too young to understand. But it is just about ripping up a toy. So not really all that brutal.

The rest of the game is completely fine though, would recommend.

Honytawk,

Only if you want to push her into a different hobby

Honytawk,

Yeah, totally no stress fighting the moonlord or any of the bosses…

Terraria is fun, but doubt a non-gamer will be able to jump right in and understand the fiddly build, mine and jump mechanics. They’ll get overwhelmed.

So you prefer playing as another gender? (quanticfoundry.com) angielski

Well, as a guy, I’ve been asked multiple times why I systematically play games female characters in video games, to the point of skipping a game if I’m forced to pay a male one, with a few exceptions (I really liked Albus from Troubleshooters for example). Whenever there’s romance in a game, I’ll also take the F/F route....

Honytawk,

I like playing things that are not me.

Me playing female characters is the same reason why you will never see me play a human if I can get the option to be literally anything else.

Honytawk,

Yeah, I can make the ass as big as I want.

Pixar, eat your heart out!

Honytawk,

Try playing a game in third person with an invisible character then

Honytawk,

Zelda would have been even more fun if it was available on every platform instead of just Nintendo.

Honytawk,

I just wish there was more media of the Discworld other than the books, a handful of movies and some games of the 90’s. It is such a big universe that has so much room for stories.

Honytawk,

I loved the mod that turned all those animated paintings into anime vtubers, so goofy

Honytawk,

More like: Even a bland game will sell more if it is released on multiple platforms, no matter how good the other game is.

Honytawk,

But it isn’t, and that is the problem.

Honytawk,

Enjoying the game doesn’t mean you are supporting the author.

Especially if you pirate it.

Honytawk,

The game allowed you to create a trans protagonist (male voice/female body, pronouns, …). It isn’t a crusade against them at all, it is empowering them. No matter what the author said.

Honytawk,

If the sovereign citizen’s gun is as real as their documents, then the Wizard.

Honytawk,

She didn’t sell the game, she only lend the IP.

Avalanche Software nor Warner Bro’s are anti-trans. As shown in the game where you can make a full fledged trans protagonist with your pronouns.

Honytawk,

Super Mario’s boss is right.

Both sides are equally bad.

Honytawk,

The last time I had that bug was with Oblivion.

It was the first time I played it and found the combat frustratingly difficult because of the increased speed. Especially in dungeons where I had to bait enemies one by one just to not get overwhelmed. One hand was always holding a healing spell as well.

Honytawk,

The competitor to the monopoly.

Why does it matter?

Honytawk,

Then just relate to the ass-bad characters

Honytawk,

They deserve it, because they exist.

They aren’t doing anything wrong by existing.

So developers should not have their creative freedom of using non-cis characters in their stoies taken away.
