Dudewitbow,

bungie hasnt been affiliated with microsoft for almost 2 decades now.

the whole point of destiny was microsoft wanted them to keep working on Halo, but they wanted to work on something else, so they bought their independence

Dudewitbow,

the PS5 also has reletively low game ownership rate, so the hours on PS5 are either games given for free/part of subscription, or free to play.

Dudewitbow,

this generation is odd because the effects of covid are still being felt.

Dudewitbow,

i mean its not like you cant go onto the mobile store and buy games like stardew valley or terraria. its just that pay to play games have taken a back seat due to the profitability of free to play games.

Dudewitbow,

how i personally see it is that it welcomes devs to set a new minimum pc requirement to target. due to valve not doing contstent iterations (which imo is actually a good thing), it gives people a point of performance comparison reference to when wanting to play a new title.

Dudewitbow,

also to further back the statement, it wasnt because wiiu games were bad, in fact most of the wiiu games ported to switch are top sellers, so no one can make the claim it was a game quality issue.

Dudewitbow,

the reason why the fallout story is very flexible on a any place no context story is because each individual vault has its own story, and stories are hyper regionalistic. so while all regions may share the same start (nuclear fallout of course) and prewar tech, what happens after is up to the writers imagination, as long as a writer doesnt pick an already existing vault number that already has a rule.

minor lore spoilers ahead: each vault was not built the same, all were a major experiment and had different conditions to see how humanity would adapt to different conditions presented to them.

this is why fallout is super flexible on where a story can start, game, or show wise. for example of something that won’t be in a game or show, Vault 68 was an experiment where what would happen if you put 1 woman, and 999 men in a bunker. Vault 69 was what would happen if you had 1 man, and 999 women in a bunker.

Dudewitbow,

isnt that why if you value privacy (or customization) youre supposed to not plug the tv to the internet and use your prefered streaming setup connected over hdmi. its ultimately a self inflicted problem of people using the built in stuff rather than take the time and setup an actual setup (that would stay the same between tvs as long as said device doesnt die on you)

then convenience is sold, especially if its free, then your data is going to be sold with it.

Dudewitbow,

which is why ones better off with a modified Nvidia Shield or Apple TV to minimize data collection, if you arent using an HTPC for a streaming server. Not a binary system, its a game of whose doing it the least, and the TV companies have a huge incentive to collect money off the integrated stuff vs companies whose cost is moreso on the hardware, and make money off their intended subscription services (Apple One for Apple TV, Nvidia Geforce Now for gaming on the Shield)

Dudewitbow,

basically nintendo and sony are dubious with digital,. since they dont host their own CDN, so the store is more prone to being shut down earlier than virtually all other competitors.

Dudewitbow,

its what japanese game companies do after a “golden era” when they come off on top. they make stupid business decisions that tank their goodwill they just earned.

its why when a japanese game company makes it big, it almost always is followed with becoming the villian immediately after

the sucess of monster hunter, resident evil remakes, and sf6 has gotten to their head.

Dudewitbow,

that has been a thing since monster hunter world tbh, if people are only finding about this now, they havent been playing capcom games with custom characters in the past decade.

Dudewitbow,

im still on that boat that believes the rumor that older management took back power from the younger management (reminder that capcom is a family ran business) after the Chun Li incident. Capcom wants to get into the business of selling game engine use but it being moddable (thus regular people can potentially stain an image of a game) may hurt its adoption.

Dudewitbow,

i mean havent played 2 yet, but travel in dragons dogma 1 was not fun, especially the number of times you had to cross the stone canyon path between the Cassadarris and Gran Soren got very stale.

Dudewitbow,

its just a pattern that keeps repeating.

Sony became very aggressive and anti consumer the moment the PS4 outsold the Xbox One after being behind the shadow of the 360 for most of its life. started paying for a lot of timed exclusives, exclusive game content (e.g COD, Hogwarts Legacy), block a lot of cross platform attempts.

Nintendo went very anti consumer after being very generous with the WiiU, and resurrecting the 3DS and releasing the sucessful, but very feature limited Switch. introduces paid online for an online service thats effectively at times, worse than the WiiU, decides to sell emulated titles either on limited time offer (Mario 3d collection) or required subscription to online, and take away browser and local save backups.

i could keep going on with a lot of sucessful japanese game companies, but its basically the same story every fucking time.

Dudewitbow,

the problem with this argument is gamepass isn’t a console exclusive feature.

Dudewitbow,

people who have underperforming or incompatible hardware who hound developers for optimaztion on a project that was free.

people tend to not read app requirements (or the fucking manual) because their too lazy to help themselves before bugging someone else.

Dudewitbow,

because sony and nintendo realised having ability to have user loaded content is a vector of security vulnerbilities, so they decided the best choice to fight of exploits is not give you the feature instead of having a competent cyber security team.

for instance, neither sony nor nintendo give you an internet browser thats not hidden. Microsoft does.

the followup question is which company has the most experience developing an OS.

Sony and Nintendo care more about preventing piracy than it does giving its userbase good features.

Dudewitbow,

you arent alone really there us a subset of zelda fans who dont really like the direction zelda has gone. and its not that i dont think botw/totk is a bad game, its just a bad zelda game if you were looking to play zelda.

its like playing Halo or something, and when Halo Wars was released, it became the main game(in an alternate universe). Halo Wars itself isnt a bad game, its just if you came in expecting Halo of previous past youd be slightly disappointed.

Dudewitbow,

thats just due to market size.

virtually anyone can watch an adult video without context. not everyone can play a japanese game with no context. the latter also takes more time to develop.

thr console pc paragdim imo started to switch around when consoles are no longer bleeding edge tech. although price/performamce optimized, they are no longer considered visually the best experience, and everything outside of switch carts needs a digital connection to update. on the PS3/360 launch, their performance was considered high end. Nowadays consoles release with middle of the pack performance to minimize cost. Consoles are slowly losing their plug and play status and resorting to other methods of monetization.

Dudewitbow,

pvp is very toxic, but a player never has to go into it, however a user has to go into WvW if they want. legendaries strictly for Gift of Battle.

Dudewitbow,

its definitely an open world collectathon which makes. it feel repetitive. its because of its unique combat options which makes the game fun.

if youve ever played MGSV, it oddly kinda has the same kind of openness, just two completely different time periods, but attacking a camp cam be done in stealth, or guns ablazing in both.

Dudewitbow,

as long as developers buy into the CUDA environment, that will never happen.

the sole reason why nvidia caps vram capacities is to prevent developers from having a budget option and having to buy 4090s or workstation quadro cards for vram.

Dudewitbow,

time to bend over to go buy an RTX 8000 gpu

Dudewitbow,

jokes on them, i actually played gta and witcher early titles at least on this list. if baldurs gate is included, i at least played the dark alliance spinoff

Dudewitbow,

i played 1 and 2 before 3 launched. Allowed me to appreciate the choices i made in 2, and while the plot of 1 for the most part is virtually disconnected from the rest of the series outside of Foltest, gives you appreciation for the heart of stone dlc in 3 when you revisit Shani (especially since i went the Shani route over the Triss one).

because of how disconnected 1 is as a story, it almost could be a side story as its very self contained outside of Foltest’ role inthe universe.

Dudewitbow,

the funniest shit about the paperowrk is that nintendo indirectly says nintendo is doing illegal work because they claim a video game emulator is a piece of software that allows users to unlawfully play pirated video games that were published for a specific console on a general purpose device.

they either have to say NSO/Nes/Snes classic are not emulation, or admit their definition of emulators is not the universally accepted definition of it, else Nintendo just Claimed Nintendo is serving up and charging for an unlawful service that is NSO.

Dudewitbow,

they basically have a weak argument because they claim yuzu gives you links to the tools to get the keys to enable piracy.

Dudewitbow,

there are already 3rd party repositories that come from yuzu. e.g Yuzu Pineapple is a repository that autocompiles the source code that yuzu puts out so that you dont have to sub to get early access builds prebuilt.

Dudewitbow,

the small detail is forgotten that those MMOs have a subscription model or are free but with pay-to-win practices. They are sustainable in that way."

horizontal progression mmos like ESO or GW2 that arent subs arent either of those.

Dudewitbow,

in horizontal progression, changes in things are typically sidegrades in progress, as you trade off one thing for another, compared to having a higher level equipment with higher stats in a vertically progressed MMO. New builds can be created via patches, but they aren’t necessarily straight upgrades from the existing ones.

Dudewitbow,

if that’s your definition of “winning” then you have a different way of playing mmos. The most expensive cosmetics in the game are ridiculously low drop rate infusions that surpass the cost of virtually anything in the shop directly.

Dudewitbow,

yeah psr could run it if you have an exploited console.

the only console to officially at some point allow for it was the PS3 though.

Alternatively, any xbox one/series is technically capable of running windows in the cloud so you could theoretically get a very expensive cloud pc running on it.

Dudewitbow,

the pc version didnt so i would be utterly suprised of the console versions did.

Dudewitbow,

the thing is, if they were going to make a “new” version, pc would have likely also got an announcement for a “new” version, which hasnt happened yet.

only reason why they would exclude pc is that it would have been a redundant addition

Dudewitbow,

conpanies usually either bake it into the game as tutorials or have digital manuals nowadays. it was always about cutting physical sales cost (as the physical media itself has a cost attached to it)

IDK how it works on the current console devices, but on the yhe previous generation, the wiiu for example would give the player the option to open the digital manual when the game is launched by pressing the home button and selecting the manual. one of yhe pros is that the manuals digitally tend to be more complete and not rushed to save on cost. take for example, the Xenoblade Chronicle X manual is 142 pages long, something that would basically never exist physically.

Dudewitbow,

tencent owns 40% of the company, Disney only owns only ~10% of it. Disney will have a voice, but they have no remote control of the direction it leads when Sweney and Tencent own the vast majority of the company

  • Dudewitbow,

he possibly went back into doing piracy business as his business domain was found in the chain related to mig switch (which is not the first time the company has changed its name and “announced” itself on some reletively unknown twitter page)

    Dudewitbow,

the only reason why i think they do is because they had recently shut down the source 2 tf2 port project, but kept other fan projects like portal 2 prequel and oked it. makes it seem like they have something in store for team fortress, albeit the port job was illegally moving assets into a different development ground.

    Dudewitbow,

Playstation is the market leader for at least 2 generations because of their amazing first party games

of the two, the switch is like currently the 3rd top selling console of all time, only behind the DS and PS2 with 130m+ sold.

    Dudewitbow,

unless your Sony trying to argue in court against microsoft that its not one and one at the same time.

    Dudewitbow,

Last months patch did a lot for optimization, especially on the cpu and non amd gpu builds, seeing double digit gains.

    Dudewitbow,

Part of the reason why Bethesda games visually looks bad is because their tied to the hip with creation engine for modders to use. Part of the reason why bethesda games have soo many mods is because of how much of the games engine is open to modders to modify.

    Dudewitbow,

It pales in conparison to what modders do with bethesda games.

Modders can legitamately put other games into a bethesdasoft title (tale of two wastelands, skyblivion, morrowblivion, skywind)

Take for example, the games let you outright add your own physics engine.

    Dudewitbow,

To being it a tier higher, id argue South Korea is a tier higher for corporate owned countries.

    Dudewitbow, (edited )

Specially melee? When the fallout happened, it was significantly more ultimate personalities who were confirmed problematic, mainly due to the fact that someone younger is more likely to have been playing ultimate(melees an over a 20 year old game), which would lead to a higher chance of a negative interaction.

Splatoon also has some animosity towards nintendo as they were also behind the smash scene because they know that nintendo does not ultimately care about them, as caring about them leads to how Arms fizzled out.

    Dudewitbow,

Its the same idea for stables in skyrim. Using them isnt ideal for speed, but there are users who prefer getting around via natural means rather than fast travel.

    Dudewitbow,

Not teaching kids thr value of money imo is the main one. They dont understand the cost of subs because its not their money they are spending.

I have a half brother whose on the sensible side of buying games. He doesnt get a lot of money, hell he got a 20$ steam card from a friend, and hes saving it for an indie game that doesnt even release till 2025.
